In less than a year I have gone from never cultivated before, to having 5 monokaryons and currently 10 mon-mon pairings in their F1, with lots of growth and success and failure along the way. Nearly all success has been predominantly thanks to you Ed Grand, and all my breeding has been facilitated by the grab and drag specifically! Thank you for changing my life Ed!

That makes me very happy! You are the kind of person I make videos for. Mycology changed my life and I think for anyone with a little extra time, money, and interest, it can change theirs too! Thank you for the message. You have given me a much better outlook and motivation for the pile of work I've got to do in a bit. :)

Thank you. It is way more straightforward than it seems. Getting those monos becomes a little addictive and the plates multiply like tribbles :)

So I'm gonna do my own digging but figured it'd throw the question up here anyways. Once you have monos isolated, that's basically one half of the equation for a fruiting body? And then I suppose there's multiple ways to introduce two monos together...or a mono-dikarion (donation) process? What are the most effective/simplest ways to accomplish this?

Thanks man...good stuff as always. Great timing on this vid. Today I'm doing my 1st grab and drag from the last swab I have from my 1st successful grow from years ago. It's kinda sentimental as I went through dozens of contaminated plates for months until I got a tiny clean colony, pulled it off, got for my 1st fruits and had my 1st cup of spicy tea. I was reluctant to use this last swab (sappy, I know) but this technique gave me confidence in getting some spores and saving a bit of clean swab if things don't work out. btw, since I had never ripped a swab apart, the OCD geek in me did a practice run with a clean swab dipped in paprika and a pad of butter. :) In appreciation.

Very nice coverage, if you could do another with prepping the culture to go under the scope to check the monos. I know it’s hard to setup but we could use a how to grab, prepare and plate so we have the correct process down. I end up looking at blobs, trying to dilute them and prep to inspect under the scope. It’s been 30 years since I did prep work, so another video on the new steps would be great. Thanks for the explanation and detailed show and tell. ✌️

Tried my first ghetto swab for shits and giggles, kinda want to wait till I get a microscope but I just did it anyway. Had a ksss tub and a TedxTam tub dropping spores at the same time so I swabbed them both and sent it. Got two colonies that were really light and whispy and one that looks normal. So I subbed each colony and made new plates for them and I'm gonna let the grab and drag plate grow out and I'm gonna just spawn them all separate and see what happens lol. Thanks for the education Sir! Got a bunch of financial problems so I gotta wait on a scope for a while, you and DK definitely inspire me into wanting to breed. Thanks as always ED. 🍄❤️
