Hey brother, great video but something you may want to note is that Flex Seal in the spray form (possibly due to the added propellant) MAY not be as safe as the liquid version for this project. Flex Seal has a lengthy Material Data Safety Sheet that you can read that includes the following: EFFECT OF CHEMICAL ON AQUATIC LIFE: This product may adversely affect aquatic life if released into an aquatic environment. If high concentrations of the product are released to an aquatic environment, death of fish, animals, and invertebrates may occur. This only goes for the spray version while the liquid version in the paint can does not have this warning. When making a soaking tub of any sort I try and look for something that is safe to use in an aquarium based setting such as Momentive RTV108 as it won't leech into the water.

Just want to offer some advice! Consider using an Ink Bird to maintain water temp. This is a unit that you plug in to the freezer and wall, then set the parameters. You can set the highest temp you want it to get to and it will turn on the condenser. Then you can set the lowest temp and it will turn off the condenser. This would be a lot more reliable and would literally be within a few degrees (whatever you set) at any given time!

Get an inkbird!! For $35 you can control the temperature of your ice bath! Simply plug the freezer into this device, which is plugged into the wall, set the desired temperature, place the thermometer in the oce bath, and the device will turn the freezer on and off whenever it deviates between 2 degrees of your desired temperature :)

Love this video, super comprehensive. My only added thought is to challenge you’re idea of “end with cold”. From what I’ve read, ending with hot vasodilates your body which flushes tons of new, nutrient rich dense blood back into the muscles after your body was vasoconstricted from the cold. I, personally, feel a world of difference if I end with cold. Like a reset button on my body.

Instead of buying a timer and a thermometer, you can buy a digital ITC (temperature controller) and a temp. sensor and modify the freezer by installing it in the electric circuit, so then you can set the temperature you want in the TIC, and it will turn on/off automatically the freezer, keeping the temp constant. It should cost 20 to 30 bucks...It is quite simple to do it...way easier than a good snatch ;)

Hi Firstly Thank you for this video Secondly I recently purchased a deep freezer and looking to prepare it I will follow your advice. I have one question however concerning the water temperature and how to adjust it and avoid the block of ice problem. Can I add salt to the water and will this help prevent the block of ice? How would chlorinatation of water affect freezing temperature? What is the ideal temperature for the ice bath? 32°farh? Or is 40°sufficient. Thanks for reading me and this video 👍👍

Hey Jacob interesting video subject. I did a short research my self and came to the conclusion that the inflammation part of the story is correct but when it comes to recovery it may less beneficial. Because a certain protein concerning the rebuilding of the muscle fibre is reduced. And on top of that is the blood flow much slower when muscles are being cooled, which means that lactic acid will be slower removed. A good stretch or biking on a slow pace may be more beneficial. What do you think?
@JacobHeppner5 жыл бұрын
I read something similar a while back, but I still think the ice bath is wonderful at night at least.
@huibrommers5 жыл бұрын
Fair enough! Blessing and many ‘cool adventures’ 🎅
@aidan40625 жыл бұрын
The timing factors in a lot too. Jumping in immediately after a WO might not be ideal, but after you’ve done post work eating/protein etc. and your muscles have gone into repair (think evening hours before bed) mode the cold water will cause your blood vessels to temporarily constrict and then afterwards when they dialate again you actually get a flushing effect in the muscle tissue that helps with recovery. The big benefit that people often overlook though is the improved sleep J mentions, which is the ultimate “recovery tool”. The lowering of your body temp sends sleep signals to your brain and you get to sleep quicker and sleep more soundly in my experience.
@huibrommers5 жыл бұрын
Interesting point. I read that for some people an icebath is so exhilarating that they can’t sleep at all. Maybe it’s an good idea to take the ice bath first thing in de morning after a good sleep and combine it with intermittent fasting. I think that’s a golden combination inflammatory wise...
