Thanks for the suggestion. I've been using Lampe Berger for many years, but stopped due to the expense and difficulty in procuring the 'oils' in my country. From now on I plan to make my own fuel from now on. Just one more tip that you didn't mention - when you let diffuser burn until dry, the tip of the wick tends to burn, and the diffuser won't burn effectively afterwards. What I do to overcome this is to dismantle the ceramic head and wick, trim the blackened tip and reinsert the wick into the head, making sure to leave a small gap (if the wick is indirect contact with the top of the head, it tends to get too wet and doesn't burn well). Finally, soak the wick and head in alcohol, as you have demonstrated, and you are good to go. One more tip is to burn off the residue that builds up in the ceramic head to keep it working efficiently - I would do this about once a month - just use a mini torch lighter with high powered flame, and keep burning it until the head turns from Black to grey, and then it will be as good as new. I hope these tips help, and thanks again for the instructions on how to make my own fuel!

Thank you for this video!!! I know Lampe Berger from my childhood but never owned one myself until recently. I bumped into your video 2 years ago and found it extremely cool, given I know how expensive it is to run a lamp on original fragrance, plus the artificial stuff just makes my head spin. Recently I remembered your video, revisited it, and purchased my lamp. Your method works like a charm and here's my current favourite recipe: 32 drops lemon, 7 drops cedarwood and11 drops neroli. I used 99% alcohol and filled my lamp half full (200mls approx I think) Thank you once again and I'm sending you my best!

If you can't find the 91% iso you can buy the 99% and dilute the alcohol with distilled water. Regular water will have minerals which might be bad for the stone. To go from 99% to 91% we have to reduce the alcohol concentration by 8%. To make 100 ml of 91% iso you need 8 ml of distilled water and 92 ml of 99% iso. To make a large batch add 80 ml of distilled water to 920 ml of 99% iso.

I'm glad I found this video, I was given a Redolere lamp for Christmas, along with a bottle of fragrance. I read everything on the bottle and also noticed it was basically all alcohol. I am almost at the bottom of the bottle, so I got to looking for a less expensive way to make my own. I am a DIY 'er so finding this and seeing recipes made me very happy. I'd never seen these lamps before and I love it. Thanks for the tips

Worth remembering the higher alcohol content, the hotter burn, the lower life of the stone. The heavier oils will block stones if concentration is too high shortening the life of the stone. It is not always possible to rejuvenate a blocked stone. I have had expensive stones last only 3 uses before due to a combination of factors! Don't leave it flaming longer than 5 min. If it starts to over heat (red hot colour is a sign of this) it will age extremely rapidly. The catalytic metals change composition throughout its design life. Not sure if this is linear but it is definitely a cumulative decrease in burn efficiency over use. The lower temp you can get a stable burn the longer it will last. The least time you have it flaming the better.

I've been making my own for some time now, and it's so much cheaper! I also found the company called Natures Garden supply that has the very best scented oils that burn very clean and a lot of them actually have essential oils right in them and you can purchase them in a 10 pack of 1 oz bottles for only about $13.00 plus S&H in a small rate bubble bag that they wrap up very well as to not have any break or spill. And some of them are only a buck each on sale! Just be careful as they are very strong scents and you only need about 1/4 tsp per a 16 bottle of the 91% alcohol. Also, I really do not use my lamp all that much except when I really need to clean the air in the winter especially, also it helps with allergies as well. It also helps with clearing up those nasal passages using camphor essential oil. You can also make a spa like fragrance using eucalyptus and lavender together, it will really relax you more than you know! I also noticed the "Fresh Cut Roses" also relaxes as me just all by itself, only made by "Naturals" can you get this scented oil, as any other rose scented oil smells like more of a fake rose type and even sort smells like your actually burning incense. So be careful what you mix with the alcohol first before you mix and burn it. Naturals also has a lot great fruity scents as well that are really true to the actual scents. One of my favorite is the "Strawberries and Champagne" scented oil made by them, you can actually smell the actual fizz in the air when you use this to make you oil! Good luck to all of you, and Lamp Berger isn't the only lamp you can purchase that will do the same thing as any Catalytic lamp will, the thing is all in the wick! Lamp Berger wicks are the best wicks by far, and if you take care of them, they will last you a very, very long time! They also look totally different than the one above. They almost look like a star shaped wick made from a stone and are actually double layered, that's what makes them so great! You can google "The Lamp Stand" and get a lamp for a really good price that doesn't have to be a "Lamp Berger" lamp and is the exact same thing as long as you use the right wick. I had purposely purchased 2 extra wicks, and they were about $10.00 each, but they will last me forever switching them out and keeping them in a container of at least 91% alcohol at all times until I'm ready to use it, then put the other in the container straight away, and NEVER let my wick dry out!! That is what will ruin or cause you wick to not last, and get all clogged up, as when you are only running on fumes, that's when a lot of junk that's left in the wick dries out and clogs up your wick. Just a little FYI... I used to use my lamp all of time, and every single day. However I also use my wax warmers as well with a special blend of wax that actually also cleans the air as well. If you want more information on this wax and getting a free wax warmer as well, google Oreck clean air candles, and they always have the deal in which you purchase about $16.95 of clean air wax and get a free warmer. These warmers are my very favorite! They also have a hot plate, plus the actual dish is nice a deep unlike the Glade warmer which is so easy to spill with it's very shallow dish, that is almost like plate instead of dish. Good luck all with scenting your home in the best way for you! Just sharing my own ways that I do it for me, and I also order a lot of my wax from Sweet Smells N Trinkets as she has that kind of wax that punches you in face! Just the way I like it! Nice and strong and she has every scent under the sun as well for all tastes. Plus you cannot beat her customer service as well! If you do a special order like I just did about 2 1/2 weeks ago, be patient! And I promise you it will be worth it! Remember she is a small wax chandler and wax artist, and does have a lot of orders to fill, that should tell you something right there! That's why I order a lot when I can... I just ordered a wax pie that is anywhere from 3 1/2 to 4 lbs of wax! And will last me a very, very long time and of course she also purchases many of her supplies from "Naturals' as well. I also got in on a flash sale just on Saturday, so that will take another 2 1/2 weeks to ship as well, as she gets to know you, and also puts in some surprises that can be worth up to $50.00 to $1,000.00! I have never been disappointed in anything she has ever picked out for me. Being that opals are my birth stone, she sure knows what I like! Now I only need a pair of earrings to match all of the opal jewelry she has hidden in my awesome candles and wax that I have gotten from her within the past 5 years!

Actually I think you are telling about fragrance oil. Essential oil is not anything like that. Let’s say lemon Essential oil comes from the oil in the lemon peel, but it’s extracted. Does not have mineral oil in it at all, at least real essential oils don’t. So you are very misinformed, not trying to be rude. Just thought you should know the difference. I am very allergic to fragrance oils, but can use real essential oils fine.

I’ve tried your method and think it’s great but I have ruined two wicks and not sure what to do at this point. I am using 91% alcohol and just a few drops of essential oil as instructed in the video. I’ve tried burning the wick for longer periods to “get it going” but that hasn’t worked either. My wick tuckers out after less than a few minutes of burning. I’d appreciate any assistance.

FYI: as of 9-24: I have found lamp fuel from La-tee-da at much lower price than Lampe Berger. Another source is Courtney’s. I dilute the store bought fuel with 91% alcohol. I collect lamps ( now 50)and I have several brands. They say that they purify the air but I I just know that they clear out cooking smells quickly plus I like my home smell good.

Be careful using the Bergamot with the alcohol. I am under the understanding the two mixed together (alcohol and bergamot) has a huge cancer risk

That's actually Scentier Lamp, I have one exactly like it, only it's clear and also is really pretty and is a clear iridescent lamp shaped exactly like this one in the video, whilst if you ever look at Lamp Berger Lamps, you will definitely know the difference in their design as well as their price! You're only paying for a name with Lamp Berger and I LOVE my Scentier Lamp even better, it's much prettier to me. On the other hand, the oils you just cannot beat! Especially if you like a strong scent that sort of punches you in face like I do, however you make your own just like Lamp Berger using Natures Gardens scented oils as I do as well with the 91% alcohol, and a little will go a long way... And so clean burning as well. However, I'll always stick to the Lamp Berger wicks forever. They will last you longer than any other wick on the market, as long as you take care of them and do NOT let them dry out or burn out EVER!

If that was truly a REAL Lamp Berger lamp, that edition of the lamp would have a totally different and silver crown that would have "Lamp Berger Paris" right on the crown in silver with the matching silver wick hole. Also it was a little different (I really know my lamps!) It also had a holder ring around the bottom of that edition as well. That crown is exactly like my Scentier lamp, which seems very common to Scentier. Don't get me wrong here! I paid full price for mine years ago, and it was not cheap nor cheaply made either. It's actually real Crystal, only mine is a little different in the style, it's the "Hobnail" edition of their crystal lamps. It's also very important to find a wick cap. You can get one on the cheap at www.thelampstand.com . They also have a lot of different other supplies, and that is where I get my wicks as well. These lamps all started in hospitals to prevent strains of different airborne sicknesses from spreading back in what I think was about 1904, when a pharmacist came up with the idea of a catalytic lamp using only alcohol to clean the air and sanitize the rooms and hallways of the hospitals in paris way back in the day. And then later they began to add fragrance to the alcohol so it didn't smell so sanitary as hospitals always complained about when using them. Then the all caught on for home use and not only cleaning the air in households, but also making their homes smell really good as well. I am having trouble finding the blog I had read a few years ago, but I know someone had been selling "Fake" Lamp Berger lamps from about the 1960's through the late 70's with the markings on the bottom of them that said "Lamp Berger Paris" and were actually forged in paris. Now there is other great companies as well that make if not better, the exact same idea in catalytic effusion lamps. Just always remember you get what you pay for like anything else. Lamp Berger had it's own type of designs I could notice without pretty much guessing these days. And the caps alone are very ornamental with "Lamp Berger Paris" somewhere on every crown on their lamps. No other lamp manufacturer does this. Even if it's on there in very small print. I have a bunch of lamps that look pretty much the same. Then a pic of the actual Lamp Berger Lamp that is closest to your lamp. But I don't think I'm able to post them here, there is no photo upload on the comment section on KZbin. Then you would see what I'm talking about. No worries, you still have a really great lamp! :o)

I don't understand why it is so important to argue whether this is a legitimate Lampe Berger or not. It has "LAMPE BERGER" and "MADE IN FRANCE" etched into the metal on the crown, "Lampe Berger Paris" written on the bottom, part of the glass mold, and also a holographic sticker on the bottom with "Lampe Berger Paris" with smaller writing that says "Lampe Berger Japan." I mean, why would a counterfeiter go through all of this trouble over a relatively inexpensive device? Whether it is "real" or not, who cares? The Lampe Berger wicks fit, and it works fine. Lampe Berger makes more affordable ones just made of glass too, they're not all crystal, and they're not all super ornamental. I just bought my sister a very simple one from the store

Thank you so much for this... I'm in the UK.. I have an Ashleigh & Burwood lamp... Exactly the same principle as yours....500 ml... Of their lamp fillers costs £12.99 (gbp)... Which is crazy expensive if you want to burn your oil lamp more than once a week... Which I do bc it kills germs in the air and improves my asthma symptoms greatly.. But I couldn't be buying the recommended branded stuff they sell. I thought there must be a homemade version I can make, as the ingredients are an alcohol base and a blend of essential oils... Yours is the first video I've found.. and I'm delighted that this works! I burn naga champ incense and really wanted an oil burner filler that smelt the same....but there's nothing even close... I've got the naga champ oil now, which I wear as a perfume, add a few drops to my laundry wash rinse cycle, & am now going to buy the 91% alcohol to add to it for my oil lamp. Many thanks indeed for your very informative video 🙏🏼👍🏼😁

I've ruined two stones mixing in essential oils and I've only use two drops to test. They smoke and the stone glazes and stops burning. By the way the best alcohol I find is the 99% which is the only purity other than 70% I can find. I just buy the original and dilute it which works fine.

Thank you so much for this video! One question: I like a stronger fragrance than in the video. Is there an advised upper limit to how many drops of essential oil to use? I think I went overboard and clogged the stone. I soaked it in isopropyl alcohol and that seemed to clean it, but I would like to know just how much essential oil I can use before causing a problem.
@Tunacrab
@Tunacrab 2 жыл бұрын
That's just a trial and error thing, and I think it depends on how sticky the oil is. Some I can go harder, some I can't use as much, that's just a figure it out yourself kind of thing. But when I do clog up a stone, yes soak in pure, then burn it off for a longer period with just alcohol and wait longer before you blow it out
