Nice video! One remark: Always check with a meter or cable tester for pin to pin connections and shorts between the pins.

I use the behringer one religiously for this purpose

Why do you recommend the Canare L-4E6S Quad Mic Cable but only use the pair in this tutorial?

does which terminals you solder the signal wires to have any affect of the phase of a cable? Or? I've heard of people making cables that are phase flipped, how would one do that?

Good question, it doesn't matter which wires you solder to which terminals, as long as you do it the same for both ends. If you want a cable that flips polarity, just wire it the opposite way on each ends. The ground stays on pin 1 no matter what, it's just pins 2 and 3 that would switch.

@@PetersonGoodwyn Hmmm right okay. That totally makes sense to me. I have another thought here, I guess I'm just thinking how to articulate it. When one buy's cables from the store/manufacturer/cable maker etc, couldn't they be either one way or the other, or is there a standard that most cables are so that one doesn't have a mish mash of different phased cables?. I dunno, maybe I'm overthinking it, but I think I'm not totally crazy lol. I wouldn't be worried once I start making all my own cables because I'll know what they are, but what would you recommend to check all my purchased cables? Is there a test you could recommend to test the phase of a cable, or would an oscilloscope work?

@@underpressureman I haven't tested many commercially made cables but I think it's pretty safe to assume they are wired with the polarity correct. But if you want to be double sure there are a bunch of cable testers that test polarity and that all connections are good.

@@PetersonGoodwyn Okay thanks. I figured it out now, I misunderstood at first. I didn't understand that one end of the cable would need to be the opposite of the other end to be phase reversed. But as long as both ends are the same as eachother it doesnt matter what way you do it, is that right lol?

I did this and phantom power won't flow through the cable.

These guys make it look so easy but its not.. especially with a cheap solder iron. The 20 dollar ones oxidize really quick or just won't heat up at the tip anymore after about 20 mins, then I'm stuck with only 2 wires connected... ugh gg...
