Thank you, this was a very easy method to follow. I'm on day 3, it's high twenties at the moment so my starter is bubbling nicely already!

Mary Grace, I love your channel and videos. Very informative and you have a great energy. Can i please ask you to stop working your starter (stirring etc.) While your jar sits on your scale. Doing so can throw it out of calibration and damage it. Keep up the great channel.

instead of wasting the "discards" use it to make pancakes/flat breads in a frying pan... totally delicious! any actual discard is a real waste of perfectly good food!

My mix one day is quite dry. Is that normal and yes, I definitely mixed 50gms of water and flour and tiny bit of honey.

It was suggested to me to use Rye Flour for the starter. I find when I mix 50g flour and 50g water makes a stiff paste. Should I be adding more water?

Do you have to put it in the fridge or can it stay outside.. and where to put it - so it will germinate into sourdough starter -- leave it for 24hrs but where,,

Leave it out, it needs to get the yeast in it and putting it in the fridge/freezer slows the fermentation process

Honey can be omitted completely if desired

@@MothmanBaddie Right, I've never seen anyone add honey to S.D. starter. It supposed to eat the flour, not an outside source.

I’m most confused about this part. Do we feed it on these days but not remove 1/2 of it? It’s bubbling but not rising so high - maybe because I keep taking it away

@@robynallan3525 It depends on your climate. You have to watch it carefully, smell it, get to know it. Almost certainly you will have to remove half and feed it every day, unless it's very cold (but in that case you'd place it in a warm place). In some climates (on the equator), once the process has gotten going, leaving it for even twelve hours will start to retard the starter.

Since when is the water measured in grams?...🤨 Apart of that, the recipe is very clear and interesting. However, I don't understand why should I keep discarting half of my starter instead of buying a larger jar or mixing a smaller quantity.

They can be used interchangeably, 1 gram = 1 millilitre

The reason- if need to feed on a ratio of 1 to 1. So, if you don't reduce the volume ("discard" it) when you feed it, then you would be feeding it a gigantic amount by Day 10 as it continues to grow in size. Also0, to not waste it, you can use the 'discard' to make waffles or pancakes, etc.

This is totally absurd! Making sourdough starter from scratch is an incredibly simple process. What is being shown here is massively overcomplicated and extremely wasteful of time, effort, and flour. It's somewhat akin to telling someone the way to catch fish is to pump all of the water out of a lake, then walk out and pick the fish off the dry lake bottom.

They are implying that a simple flour and water mix will do the trick. The most important thing tends to be feeding times, and that changes with climate. Using the schedule in this video would be a disaster on the equator.
