Since I started cutting up my hibiscus, my tortoise loves the hibiscus now. I don’t have the spineless prickly pair cactus yet but I really want that to feed my tortoise. Also great and awesome video.

From the Tortoise Table - Common Name: Lily Turf (Border Grass, Monkey Grass, Spider Grass, Liriope, Big Blue Lilyturf, Aztec Grass) Latin Name: Liriope spp. Family Name: Asparagaceae/Ruscaceae/Convallariaceae Some species of this ornamental garden plant grow from rhizomes that are high in saponins, and others grow from fibrous roots with tuberous endings. As saponins are toxic to cold-blooded animals, and as we do not know if the leaves of Lily Turf also contain high levels of saponins, we would advise you to exercise caution and not feed this plant to tortoises. The flowers are usually lilac in colour, but can also be found in white, and the berries are blackish or very dark purple and said to be mildly toxic.

Hi Love your channel. Elephant grass is one I recently heard about, great for tortoises. I found the seeds on etsy's and recently received them. I will plant them in our s p ring. It's a perrienal and should come back for me. For you it will be there all year round. Would you be willing to sell me some of your opuntia pads which I will plant in my greenhouse and take out in the summer. I will of course pay shipping. If you don't want to, I understand, no hard feelings. I'm new to your channel, but not to reptiles. I love that your grandfather is helping you and it's great that you have that special relationship with him. I look forward to your videos and thank you.

Hey, thank you! Yes I’ve heard of elephant grass it’s invasive here and grows everywhere, my tortoises didn’t like it. And I have opuntia cactus available in my website shadowsreptiles.com in the reptile supply section

Hello, so quick question. I have become fond of these reptiles and already taking of a lizard, I was thinking about getting a tortoise. Now I was getting everything about housing and hygiene, but it diet kinda confused me, it says it should graze on grass and weeds. But what kind of weeds and are some weeds dangerous? Thank you.
@ShadowsReptiles
@ShadowsReptiles 4 жыл бұрын
Mr Hamm hey yes 70% of their diet should be grasses and I let mine graze naturally in the back yard they mostly eat grass and as for weeds dandelions and clovers are good

Thank you for the informative video! I’m thinking about tortoise proofing my backyard. Have you had any problems with your sulcata tortoise digging? I’m worried mine will
@ShadowsReptiles
@ShadowsReptiles Жыл бұрын
There’s always the chance they’ll dig that depends on their personality a lot. Some of mine don’t dig at all except for nesting but i provide lots of hides and covers so they won’t feel the need to dig. They’ll still do it occasionally but with lots of hides there’s less of a chance.

Thank you for a highly educational video. At 4.33 you mentioned sulcata tortoise can eat banana leaves? From Malaysia and here banana trees grow at every corner of the country. Do you feed them banana leaves daily? Hope to hear from you. Already like and subscribe.
@ShadowsReptiles
@ShadowsReptiles Жыл бұрын
I don’t offer it often, mine don’t like it too much only tank would eat it but if yours eat it you can feed it a couple times a week. It’s safe to feed daily but variety is important for tortoises so they don’t get picky and hooked on one thing
