I wish I was a kid seeing this. I used to dream about making my own haunted house in our backyard, and we collected old dolls and hacked them up, painted them. It was so much fun. The thought of making your own latex masks still makes me giddy thinking about it! Thank you so much!

You could always use those old dolls and have parts of them sticking up out of the ground to make a haunted cemetery. I did that once, years ago, when my children were young. We laid down straw in an empty field next to our house, and made a trail going through our haunted cemetery. We had black lights hanging from the trees and scary music playing really loud. They invited all their friends, and the children from the nearby trailer park showed up and they all had a blast. I had made hot apple cider, donuts and Halloween decorated cupcakes for all the neighborhood kids. It was a lot of fun and made some good memories.

@DistortionsUnlimited Hi Mr. Edmunds, I’m a big fan of your company. I was wondering if you could make a new monster tutorial. I was hoping you could take the concept of a sheet ghost and turn it on the head. Imagine, a gruesome sheet ghost. Try to imagine a mummy with one big cloth thrown over it, and the cloth is conformed to the exact shape of its body. That’s what I want to see you try to make.

The fact that Ed, face-making legend, can still be surprised by the proportions of his facial measurements, is kind of beautiful. It's still not a mechanical process for him, and we shouldn't be discouraged when our expectations aren't perfectly aligned with our results! (Unless we should. I haven't finished the video yet and Ed might say different.)

Thanks for the comments and watching! We can certainly say at Distortions, for Ed, Marsha and the rest of the crew making monsters is a constant learning experience even after 40 years of doing it and lots of surprises on what works and what doesn't, what products will be popular and which ones won't. Wishing you the best on all your projects!

Thanks for the great information! 2 questions. First would the painting technique with mask making latex and indoor latex work for urethane rubber props? Second is the FW ink you refer to the Daler Rowney FW inks? Long form is I did a latex slip cast and didn't like how it turned out I think I rushed the cure time for both the mold and the latex. So I opted to poor the same head in urethane rubber and loved out it turned out back up with soft foam. Now I want to paint it but unsure if I should proceed with diluted silicone and pigments or this route.

@divergentthinkingproductions Жыл бұрын
I like to keep a tab on fx stuff b/c I do molding and casting on occasion and it's nice to know that all of the older techniques are still relevant. I want to do some projects later on and when I see the fancy stuff with fiberglass and silicone I'm like, "Wow, that's amazing," and then "Man, I bet that stuff is expensive and that there's a hell of learning curve." But clay, plaster, and latex? You can't go wrong and you can afford to really screw up w/o breaking the bank.
