For those of you who may struggle to buy these timbers (the UK market is rather limited in certain timbers) speak to tree surgeons. They usually have loads of wood at their yard that they want rid of, you may just be surprised.

I have a target in my back yard with poplar boards. It dries out faster outdoors and cracks easily when hit. I'll have to try cottonwood, but uncured spruce is a soft wood tho some say too soft.

Pine works well you just have to deal with a little bit of resin. I used 22 inch rounds 4 inches thick

What do you think about 4x6 end of grain cut wood ?

Using 1-inch strips is better when stacking, than playing Jenga with your boards, because you only have 1-inch of wood touching and not a 10-inch x 10-inch section of board.

Did not know competition axe throwing was a thing, I just wanted to have sharp yard toys and now watching your videos 😂. Try a 10-15% bleach solution for your mold management.. curious what rules you guys have concocted to prohibit such measures.

What about if I'm going to build a board for my backyard use? Same advice on type of wood? I would be keeping it outside. My original thoughts was treated construction lumber.

Hey Mold can be stopped in some clever and inexpensive ways. Keep a sprayer with some of the product “wet and forget”. It is a fungicide and is designed to be applied to a surface and left. It will take care of the mold. Should you choose to be even more intrepid, you can find commercial benzalkonium chloride and dilute it to like .5%. You can just do that in a sprayer. Now, this is the same chemical that’s in the foaming hand sanitizer at hospitals etc so it’s not gonna hurt ya. Just don’t be stupid, wear a respirator and gloves and eye pro!

,,,just realizing that those involved in "wood sports" should likely plant trees every year too... 🌲🌳 Cottonwood and poplar grow fast! What about 1/4 sawn logs!

When I googled what wood is best I found multiple sources saying pine and spruce are best, so wth? 🤷♂️
