Looking at the GoPro footage, then checking the timestamp for when the car starts to move, and when it hits 55mph on the speedo (60mph due to the un-factory trans/diff). It's probably not super accurate to "real world" stuff, but it was at least consistent! Draggy coming soon to see what it can actually do :)

Great work & brilliant results mate... You probably already know but 2 ways you could potentially get better rear grip is to soften the rear suspension and / or add a little bit of positive camber to cancel out the negative camber created when launching. However, it may affect the way your MX5 handles everywhere else, so a bit of trial & error to get it how you like it 😉👍🏻 Great work though.

Gingium, you need gusseting at the joints, and it doesn't look like you beveled the pipe for better penetration. I'd also add if you joint the two sides on the center mount, instead further back like you did, it will be significantly more rigid. Just hoping these don't break and end up doing a lot of damage to Molly.

0 degrees if camber in the rear is good for drag but for track you should probably give it around -1.5 degrees

You should do some more time tests. IE: 60-100, 45-100, 25-60, aka rolling starts. you should test passing time, etc. I feel like those give a person more of a feeling of how fast a car is and feels, rather than 0-60 which can be entirely dependent on grip.

Having 0° of static camber means that under any real lateral Gs, you'll be seeing positive camber on the outside rear tyre, which will give way to unwanted mid corner oversteer- and that slows you down. Once you've finished drag racing with John's civic, I'd reset the camber to around -1° to -1.5° at the rear, and around the same or maybe a little more at the front. Having no camber is great for the launch, but not what you want when trying to tackle corners. I'm sure you'll sort it out 👍
@_Gingium_4 жыл бұрын
Yep! The great thing about these control arms is that I can adjust camber without adjusting any other alignment spec. So I can change camber to fit whatever driving experience!
@quest87954 жыл бұрын
@@_Gingium_ that sounds great, although I'd be sure to measure Toe afterwards anyway- on my E36 the rear had masses of toe in when it had 3.5° negative camber, even though I hadn't touched the toe angle. Good luck beating john!

So you actually want +0,5 - +1 degree of camber. See if you launch your car and it Squats down the rear wheels get negative camber. So if your stock is 0 it is -0,5 (for example) and you're still not putting all power to the ground
@jacobnewhart78024 жыл бұрын
Hey man you have it backwards you want a slight negative beacuse when you acceleratate itll sqaut down flat on the tires to nearly 0 degrees then lift off slightly at higher speed.

Have you tried it with positive rear camber? Just for the sake of a launch. Since the car squats and you have unequal length upper and lower controll arms when the car squats you get camber gain (more negative), if you start with some positive camber you should have closer to zero degrees during peak load. Correct me if im wrong tho.

the best camber for independet rear suspension for launching is +2 ou +3 degrees, maye be even a bit more, yes it is good for straight line only, once your car rear gets grip on the ground, your positive camber will be around 0, if you keep it zero, when h lauch it goes to -5...-8, it depends on how har is your struts and shock/coilover, positive camber is shit for sharp turns, for high speed turns, the best is negative, specially on the front tyres

Have you tried doing positive camber? On paper it's bad, but actually when you accelerate hard it'll make the back squat a bit so you overcompensate that, by giving it a little tiny bit of positive camber
