From an audio engineering perspective that compressor preset is a bit overkill with the attack at 0ms, that’s why the voice looses its clarity, keeping it between 5 to 15 should do the trick

Another useful thing to do is once you've made your changes with EQ and compression, save them as a pre-set so in future you can just drag and drop the audio changes onto your timeline. Thanks for the informative tutorial, it's made a world of difference🙌

Hey, Jordy thank you so much for such an amazing tutorial. I am just a college student and I actually mix and produce music and shoot the videos by myself so I am always in this channel for the video production aspect of things. But this tutorial was so much fun to watch. Really cool that these audio editing techniques can be done in Premiere too! Jordy if it's not too much trouble for you guys, could you make a video on how to get/record good audio for short films, documentaries, etc with the limited resources a person can have? That would be so amazing! Thanking you in advance! Keep making people smile ad keep being awesome my friend! :)

Heeeeeey Jordy! Much love from Italy! I have some more tips and tricks about what you've shown during the tut! So, first of all, I think, it could be also good also to say which mic you used to record the "audio example" because each and one of us have his own set up and, the audio chain starts from there. If you messed up something at the begging of the process there will be no effects that can help your voice to sound more cinematic! (so, which mic did you use, where it was place and, there were sound panels helping you out with unwanted reverbs and stuff?) Then, let's move to the effect chain: 1- Noise Removal, de reverb and all effects that have to restore something bad in you recording 2- EQ 3- Compressor 4- Another EQ if needed 5- A limiter or, another mastering effects chain with a normaliser to match the loudness required from the platform (i think it's -23db for YT) Why we have to set the denoiser as our first effect? Because, if we remove everything before the EQ and the COMP, all these problems (like background noises and stuff) won't be boosted by a change, for example, on a certain range of freq. Remember that in the freq spectrum we have a lot of unwanted sounds like rumblings (0 -150hz), room tone and "boxy/muddy" sounds (300-1000hz), nasally sounds (1500-3500hz) and sibilances (7000-1000hz). Usually, if you want more clarity you have to look for the range between 5000-7000khz and to get more "air" boost just a little bit above 15000khz. (we can talk about EQ for ages, there's a lot to say) And yes, remember, that every voice sounds different, so we have to be super careful and listen what we're editing :) In the end, just to wrap it up, I think the best thing to do is to listen carefully our own voice or the one we're editing and, then, understand very well what's happening. We have different voices and we record with different gear in different places, so, for me, presets are not a smart way to edit audio, unless you create you own :) Hope that it doesn't sound as a critic but just as a useful tip for everybody. Thanks again for bringing here audio tuts! Much love!

Thanks Jordy for the turtorial. Well on my side, I am used to using premier pro's audio "Essential Audio" pannel mainly to balance my volume levels for wether Dialogue, Sfx, Ambience or Music by simply clicking Auto-Match. Then i can add a little de-noiser, de-hummer, de-reverb depending on the cleanliness of the audio. From there i also clean my audios using an EQ by chopping all the peaking sounds at any frequency. I then add another EQ to boost my lows to give it a more cinematic feel and then am good to go😋

Nice tutorial. This isn't my typical effects chain for vocal enhancement in Premiere Pro ever since they partnered with iZotope to bring their suite of audio tools under the hood. For me, it's de-noise(light processing), de-reverb(light processing), de-hum(60hz with harmonics set to 3 and a Q of 30), followed by the multi-band compressor using the broadcast preset. To help the voice ride on top of any music bed, I typically add a hard limiter to the master channel. I will also sometimes use an EQ, depending on the recording conditions, mic'd vs unmic'd. Seems to keep me from spending as much time tweaking the settings with this chain. I have never used the thickener. I'll see about trying that out. Thanks
