I got a mk4 Jetta in 2001, and put an optima battery in it. Best investment ever. Everyone with the wiring issues in the battery area can blame the lead acid battery venting and corroding all the wiring and causing issues. I checked a few of the grounds under there recently and it looked like new when I pulled the nuts off ,so I just tightened em back down.

Okay. I have a 2012 sixth-generation Golf. Right now, it runs fine. It has nearly 52,000 miles on it. I've had only two problems with it since I bought it new. The first one took seventeen tries to get fixed by the dealer - I'm not making that up! It was a constant stalling when the car was at a stop. The second problem was a broken latch on the hatch door. I got that fixed on one try. I have only three other issues, all of them cosmetic. The lip of my driver's seat has collapsed because of the foam inside falling apart. The right B-pillar trim is rippled, and so is the paint on my right rearview mirror cap. Otherwise, I'm good - no peeling soft-touch plastic like on my old Mark 4! I hope to get all of this fixed eventually, but I have to ride out the pandemic first. I wanted to get a new Mark 8 Golf in base form, but Volkswagen of America, in its infantine wisdom, has decided not to sell it here and just offer us only the more expensive GTI and R models. Even if I could get a base Mark 8 Golf, I know I can't get a car with an in-dash CD player anymore. (I have lots CDs, but no smartphone. I'm a flip-phone guy.) So, yeah, I sort of WOULD like to keep my Golf 6 forever, and I came here specifically to learn how to do that Next time, can you please post a video explaining how to make your VW run forever FOR REAL??? Please?

I bought a used VW in really great condition.. the only downside was that it didnt have any holes in the speed pipes and the lights on the dash stay off so I never know if they work or not. I thought the check engine lights and all that on VW dashes are usually on? Are my fuses just bad? I could have sworn those came from the factory like that? Maybe they started producing them hole-less and with lights off after the 2007 refresh? Minus those two things I'm happy with my purchase.

By the way on that engine you have to remove the intake to replace the dipstick funnel! It's okay though that gave me the opportunity to pour out 15 years of accumulated oil and carbon sludge.
