Never saw a tunnel book before, have seen cut out 3D framed prints and was fascinated by them. Very cool. Would be fun to do with a family photo of a birthday or holiday, wedding etc if I could get multiple prints on thick enough paper stock. Now I've got lots of recommendation to watch. Another rabbit hole

Newsprint breaks down and becomes very brittle. If you like texture, I would recommend using heavy watercolor paper or some other heavy mixed-media paper that has "tooth" to it. If you're really interested in having the print on the page, there are plenty of scrapbook papers with print on them but are acid-free. If working with paper is your medium, then check out tons of books from the library that cover all types of mixed-media, altered art projects that will inspire you! That way you will learn many tips about tools, how to incorporate artist-quality products such gesso, gel mediums and texture pastes, etc. One other suggestion would be that you check into making your own paper! It's not that hard, you set the ph level yourself if you're using recycled paper and then you have no worries! It's fun and will give you great pride in knowing you have created the whole project from beginning to end! Handmade papers have texture and you can add flower petals or glitter or be marbled... endless options. Hope you're encouraged! Looking forward to whatever else you make! 😊

Thanks for checking out the video and the feedback! You are not the first to tell me about newsprint breaking down. I am kind of attached to using found objects. Maybe the breakdown of the material can be part of the "story", part of the art! In fact that's what it's going to be for me :). thanks for your suggestions!

Love your tunnel book. The only one I've made was a birthday card for my daughter and made from card stock. Hadn't thought about using multiples of the same postcard or picture. Definitely will be now. Thanks for the video.

That is so cool, what a brilliant idea and I love that you use recycled and found objects. Hey I have an idea for you - how about selling printable tunnel book kits on your etsy shop? I would definitely buy them. Would love to see how you make the bags as well. Thanks for sharing, it was a real inspiration :D
@theZimvideo7 жыл бұрын
Printable? like the images are on the pages and you would just cut them out? Like a cut by numbers? That's an interesting idea. I guess what makes it complicated is you need to print on think paper for it to work right... regular card stock isn't that great. I don't know if it would work but it's a good idea I will think about it. Thanks for the feedback! Let me know if you make something based on this video! :)
@artyfartyannie7 жыл бұрын
Yes like that, maybe it could be printed out then stuck onto recycled packaging card before cutting out. You could maybe include measurements or a template for the framework. I've already been rooting through my stash of old books and comics ... lots of ideas bubbling away now - thanks again for the inspiration :) I've subscribed, looking forward to more videos :D
@theZimvideo7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have done that laminating myself before and it never comes out the way I would like. that's kind of why I used found objects such as postcards because I have not found a way to make them from my own images in a way that I like. I just bought a new printer nothing fancy but it's new and I was planning on tackling the concept again. I'll be sure to post a video about it when I do. :)

You can get your images printed onto heavy photo paper at Office Depot for just a couple dollars. I made a fairy jar with a picture of my cousin's toddler (that I altered by making her into a fairy) and was surprised to find that heavy photo paper was even available and not expensive. It's really heavier than card stock. So take your own artwork and get it printed to make your next tunnel book! 😊

I love this structure of creative books. I teach art to senior citizens and am thinking of doing a tunnel book class in the fall. I am seeing 5 card layers and 8 side pieces for accordion fold reinforcement sides. Is this correct?

That's great! I would give the newspaper a miss though, its horribly acidic. Tyvek would be a better choice.
@theZimvideo7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I did not realize newsprint was acidic I will have to look into that. I use it a lot becasue I like the texture, both tactically and visually with the print on it. It also usually relates to the piece I am making. I probably won't go with Tyvek because I work to maintain a "found object" aspect to these pieces and would not be buying Tyveck for them. Gals you like the video, thanks for the comment :)!
@58Kym7 жыл бұрын
Right, I get you..... Tyvek is often used in envelopes, you may be able to get some used envelopes? I really like what you are doing.
