@sewandquiltwithaprilsawtelle2 жыл бұрын
@@Jana-TheCraftyGambler I had seen it done on calculator paper / adding machine paper and I was buying water soluble for something else and I went ohhhh that would work like the paper. I then searched and found that there was a water soluble tape made for that. I love making them, it really is fun . I can’t wait to add them into my quilts 😊

I got this in the 5 inch roll a while back and have been using it to get my scrap situation under control. I do several rows at a time, kind of like chain piecing. I also do it by color. It is very relaxing to do and I tend to do it when I need a break from other projects.

Have several strips going at once. That way you don’t have to cut yiyr thread after each seam, and you don’t have to stop to press after each seam.

What are you using as an ironing mat? Part 2 what type table is your ironing mat on? I have a full size ironing board in my sewing area takes up way too much space!!
@sewandquiltwithaprilsawtelle2 жыл бұрын
I really use two, the big one that is usually behind me is just a small table top ironing board that I’ve put more batting and fabric over to make it more thick it sets on top of my shelves. That was on the counter in front of me on this video. Usually I use my little red one, it’s a board covered in batting and fabric. I do love a full size ironing board but space is an issue for me so I only pull that out for really large quilts that I’m doing lots of appliqué on. 😊

Does anyone know if its possible to do this without using the water soluble sheet, just the scraps? Does it become too unmanageable?
@sewandquiltwithaprilsawtelle2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t done it with just the scraps but I’m sure you can. It may be pretty floppy and hard to manage but it’s worth a try. I have done this with fabric many times using a foundation piece to make scrappy blocks. I would think that if you used a strip of fabric any size you would like and then sew the the scraps to it, that it would be the same concept as when I sew mine to a foundation piece. It will be a bit heavy and bulky but I’ve done many quilts this way. I never used the foundation piece as a strip but I’m sure it would work the same way. 😊
@trinam2503 Жыл бұрын
It is very possible to make scrap strips with out tape or foundation of any kind. Thats how I did it for years before I knew any better. And actually I still do a lot bc I try to quilt on a budget. The issue with not having any kind of foundation, is the stretchiness of your block. You frequently end up with a lot of bias seams and they wont always lay flat. That being said, if you choose not to use a foundation, shorten your stitch length, and go slower. Have fun with it!
@rebeccamulkern1051 Жыл бұрын
