So if a business applies for a sponsor licence and receives it but did not make any request for undefined CoS (because they did not realise they would need it), the only way to correct that mistake would be to request an 'increase' in the number of undefined CoS from 0 to x?

If you were not granted with any Undefined CoS’ in your current annual allocation, a Level 1 User on your licence may (with approval from the Authorising Officer) at any time submit a request for an increase in your CoS allocation via the Sponsorship Management System (SMS). Specific information regarding the intended sponsored roles must be included in this request to ensure the request is successful. Standard processing times are up to 18 weeks, with the option to apply for the Post Licence Priority Service, which expedites processing to 5 working days (from the date the request is accepted).
