can you play agame with like a ranged match up? how does one even play maokai into ranged? arcane comet? if you stack saps in a bush with a red and eve goes over the bush the saps will agro her.

400k points Maokai here. Here's some tips. You have to play very patient and farm under your turret. I'd take aftershock as your keystone since your w procs it and grasp won't get much use. Start with Doran's shield and make sure to have second wind. Combine these with your passive and you shouldn't die in lane. Make sure to ping your jungler if the enemy is perma pushing. Maokai has excellent gank set up with w and q knockback, an almost guaranteed kill if you have flash. Hope these tips help.

Id say maokai has an easy time into ranged matchups. They play into your strength. Which is playing safe, farming and scaling while sustaining and building defensive. Even nightmare matchups on paper like Vayne you just outlast and you can beat with teamfight utility. When your Q has 4-5 points you just smack the shit out of them if they are squish. If you have bamis + defensive components you can often kill after poking them. Runes are either aftershock or phase rush depending if they tend to burst or run you down

19:46 Jhin just got the premium 2023 ADC experience. Maokai R that takes up the ENTIRE LANE -> pyke q while rooted so physically impossible to dodge -> Maokai W, a point and click root -> Maokai Q which shoves him farther from tower -> Talon one shot. All of this while he was under tower.

Is inspiration as a secondary tree more valuable than domination? I feel like ingenious hunter will give so much value to fimbulwinter, 8 sec down to 5.3, so really it's 2 seconds without shield. Taste of blood harmonizes well with passive also, more heal is more raidboss.

Would revitalize be good instead of overgrowth? Overgrowth increases the passive heal, but would having the increased heal/ shield % apply to the passive AND the 8 second cd shields from Fimbulwinter? Does the regen from jaksho also benefit from revitalize? I think heal, regen, life steal unfortunately are classified separately?

Revitalize is not bad. Altough, most games would have at least 1 ap user, meaning that Spirit Vissage will be better since you get extra heal/shields + MR. Revitalize does actually give you extra heal from any source, yet I still recomend building spirit vissage. Also, if you play Maokai Top. Abuse your cc all you can (and if you have to fight against olaf, just bait his ult and he's done for).

Starting with big pot is the best option imo. That 20 dmg/s burn on autos is just too op in early game. You can start killing people lvl 2 Plus the sustain with cookies + passive lets you stay in lane forever and even take bad trades cause you just sustain it back.
