How-To: Massey Ferguson MF285 Auxiliary Hydraulic Pump Replacement & PTO Pack Inspection

In this video we will be replacing the auxiliary hydraulic pump that runs the remotes on a Massey Ferguson MF285 tractor. The procedure should be similar for most 100 and 200 series MF tractors.
Not shown in this footage: We used a rubber band to hold the lift control lever in place when installing the top cover. The rubber ban is flexible so it can remain in place inside without interfering with the operation of the control.
We will also be removing & inspecting the PTO clutch pack.

Yes, thank you Clint. This will help with the replacement of the auxiliary pump in our 265. Did you ever find out why the PTO would rotate with the tractor off? Looks like the clutch pack was ok?

It seemed to be better after we reassembled. It sometimes keeps turning but if there is any resistance at all, it does stop.

Thanks so much for taking the time to pass on this knowledge Clint. I had read the manual on how to do this but seeing your video, from start to end makes, the task a little less daunting. I am new to acreage life and bought a 1980 275 to move bales for horses. It can't quite lift a 1400 lbs round bale with the loader (can with 3 point hitch). I think the tractor should be able lift with the loader so I think this is what needs to be done. Any recommendations for things I should check first before tackling this? I am near New Serepta AB.

Auxiliary pump might be bad. Pressure testing is helpful tracing down the problem. My 285 3pnt lift is weak and goes up and down up and down and squeals when it goes to the very top position so I lower it. This is with a 700lb box blade. I think it's the rocker cylinder piston rings are worn bad

The lifting capacity of the loader is determined by the diameter of the lift cylinders… if they’re small. You may have trouble lifting the bales even if the tractor is OK, they should be 3” or bigger. The pressure of the tractor hydraulics should test at least 2250 psi.

I have a MF 265. The FEL no longer works after sitting for a few months. 3pl works fine aswell as pto. Im at a loss as to why it wont work anymore

My 175 has no hydraulics. The oil looks like it coming out of the bottom of the main pump. Do you have any idea what the problem is. I pulled the pumps but I can't see anything wrong

The shaft coming through the scotch yoke pump aligns the PTO.
