Can i compliment you on a really good video. Can I just add something though from my own experience. At about 3.47 after you had taken out the PTO shaft you cleared out some gunk from the outlet of the diff housing and showed us briefly some needle bearings. You might wonder where they came from. Well along the length of the PTO shaft there are four bearing points. Starting from the back there is a large ball bearing (which you replaced) and then at the opposite side of the diff housing there is a 1 3/8" (roughly) needle roller bearing. That is where the needle bearings you showed probably came from. Next the PTO shift gear effectively supports the PTO shaft and finally the nose of the PTO shaft sits in a small needle bearing in the pump. It seems to me impossible for the pump needle bearings to have got back to the diff housing so that leaves the intermediate one. Given the fact there are four bearings it may be a moot point whether you need to be worried about the failed 1 3/8" needle bearing as it is a beast to get at and replace (I hope to do my own video on that). I am not sure if the needle bearings could have got into the rear ball bearing to jam it as I need to check but can I warn anyone looking to replace their PTO shaft that I bought a new one and later found that it was just too big by a few thou for the 1 3/8" bearing when in its housing which may be why my bearing failed! Slide a new PTO shaft in gently first without the rear ball bearing in place just to check it does not foul the needle bearing - it should slide in smoothly and into the pump housing. Well done.

Thanks. There were only one bearing there was destroyed due to the owner was driving with a PTO shaft being too long.

Should have cleaned out the gearbox sump and inspect the hydraulic filter while it was out

Yep. I usually do that, but the owner was on a tight budget, and needed it back fast. Btw a month later I fixed a leaking lay shaft seal.

Great video on the PTO problem. Too bad you didn't give any explanation on what, where, and why along the way, along with what to do and what not to do! It would have helped greatly. The fairy music was annoying. Aside from that I sold my MF35 Deluxe (1963 year) to my brother-on-law when I moved cross country 11 yeas ago. He's now having problem with it the pto jumping out of gear when pulling an 8' Edwards rotary mower. I'll have him watch this video to see how it all works, and maybe he can figure out where his problem lies. I suspect it's the sliding gear shown at 8:30 in the video. Thanks for the video.

Thank you very much. I’m still trying to figure out how to make better videos. Btw, I hate the music too 😊 But this was an early video, and now the videos are speed up, and all the boring stuff is cut away. There are a billion “how too” videos out there, so for now I’m just videotaping the work I’m doing. But I’m trying too make them better in the future.

@@Mr.MillersWorkshop It's all good. I couldn't begin to do videos for youtube. I wish I had my MF35 back, although I don't know what I would do with it, as I live in development now.😀

Your content is great, but I have to agree, the music really detracts from the video. For these types of videos, I much prefer to listen to the actual workshop sounds and have the videographer make occasional comments on what he is doing and why. Also, when editing down the time, please don’t use time-lapse or sped-up techniques…as a viewer, I don’t learn anything from the video moving at 10x normal speed. Best to use normal speed, and edit out the repetitive parts. I learn a lot from close-up shots with explanations. Best of luck on future videos…I look forward to watching them.

Thank you for your comment. 👍 I know that the music on this early video is annoying but making these videos is also a learning curve for me.

Maybe add a voice over to this explaining what you're doing, and why you're doing it that way. Just a thought. Please don't stop what you're doing though.
