One thing I can say here is that most likely most of the pop music he is working on has high end analog elements in the recording and mixing process. The analog is already there. An all in the box production sounds better to me when it’s run through high end analog at mastering. Preference and different workflows. Great interview! although not much was said about the importance of monitoring and listening environment. 😀

I totally agree with the visual thing. I’ve so loved working with Console 1 because of this. I’m putting out my best mixes, and enjoying the process the most.

Great words Adam. And a breath of fresh air to hear how the years yield such similar perspective

These interviews are great.

I admire Adam a lot, as well as other mastering engineers like Sterling, and I can believe what they say because it's their word and I'm nobody, but where my doubt comes in is that they promote completely on the box, full of equipment, that can reinforce at some point the weaknesses of fully digital inside the box, I still have my doubts, and I have hundreds of mastering in my country in Latin music and I still don't feel one hundred percent Well, I always have to help the box with the external equipment, but Adam and the others are the masters of the industry, one day we will discover the truth, Blessings

spoiler, they get world class quality the end

Well now… I didn’t know about Adam or his work but… I’m extremely impressed with everything he said here. Wow! Music, vibe and groove first. This is the most convincing video that ‘might’ convince me about the quality of working in the box. Although I’m not quite convinced. You can’t emulate all aspects of analog gear YET. But this is just my opinion. Very impressive interview though. Not sure why the interviewer is so focused on how loud things are? I thought we had moved beyond that?

Grammy engineer- I work only in the box now. Commenters that cant accept it- Yes BUT he is using an analog power cable that gives warmth that he forgot to mention

So is this part of Produce Like A Pro?

Interesting interview. Having worked with analog gear for so long, his advantage is that he knows how it should sound--which makes it much easier to replicate using plugins. That being said, it sounds like he is still doing a pitch (from ProTools) and a catch (with Pyramix)...so I'm guessing he is still printing through high end external converters (which can have a significant impact on the sound compared to internal renders). If this is the case, then he is technically not 100% "in the box". Would have been interesting to hear more about his converters, as this also ties into monitoring (which is a critical part of the mastering process).

He is 100% ITB. Said so many times 😂 People still want to believe in some kind of magic only money can buy 🤷🏻 Spend 20 grand on some analog stuff and you’re done…

@@victorgarcia6912 To each their own. I'm just curious to know what converters he's using (and if he prints through them). So if you know him personally or something, let us know.

What is the definition of this window he keeps referencing? What is the upper and lower level of this window?
@djcolinturnbull3 ай бұрын
It’s content dependent. You have to use your ears. The point where you sacrifice dynamics for loudness and the point where you sacrifice balance for more dynamics

Not much learned from him, thanks for the interview tho
@echodream3 ай бұрын
Yeah, very basic answers. I would have liked him to elaborate a lot more on each question, what is his limiter of choice for piano voice/clean/delicate mixes, eq and dynamic automation...Dynamic eq, deessing...clipping before limiting? What are his top3/top5 reference mixes he listens to and why...

100% itb been doing it for more than 10 years…sure he’s made the money back from the old gear. Why not sell it? Get space back? Either he’s still using the hardware…. Or as he said “it’s for the looks”…in 2024 the way itb has progressed…..don’t need the gear for the looks. He really didn’t say much either. Regardless appreciate the interview

As a lesson/tutorial it's bad because you can't learn anything. As an interview it's ok, cool to watch
