How else do you say “ the word… “ When you don’t know whether it’s an adjective verb or whatever
@GuigLit3 жыл бұрын
Excellent question - if you really don’t know then stick to the word, they won’t discredit you for that because it’s the skill that matters. Beyond that select a few words and go with ‘the phrase’ or change it to embed it, for example ‘when the writer describes the character as ‘tall’’. All of these work 👍

For the 'How' and 'Evaluate' questions, Do I have to mention language/structural techniques used by the writer? eg., imagery, adjectives, long sentences etc.

For the synthesise question, do you have to refer to the title of where you got each piece of information?

Either that or the author’s name in the first instance are ideal. They prefer you referring to these.

For question 1, can it just be a couple of word answer or does it have to be in a sentence?
@GuigLit3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, Q1 can be answered in a few simple words. My advice would be to make sure they’re sharp and specific, for example put ‘15,000 miles’ not just ‘15,000’ or the specific name of a place if asked, but that’s all you need. A simple few precise words will get you the mark 👍

@GuigLit3 жыл бұрын
Here are three for you, I don’t think you would need more: “The writer explains” “The writer suggests” “The writer intimates” (And one for luck!) “The writer reveals” A rotation of all of the above plus your one will be more than enough. Very best of luck!! 🤞

hii this is soo useful but for question 1.4 when it says if we think he makes it sound dramatic do we need any terminology like adjectives or verbs or nouns or are we just stating our opinion? my mocks are next week hope i do well :)
@GuigLit2 жыл бұрын
Hi Adrian thank you for your comment and question! Terminology is only essential if you’re absolutely sure of it, the exam board will still accept ‘the word’ or ‘the phrase’ instead. They just really want to see you engage with the language and textual choices. Best of luck!

What about oxymoron and all of those techniques why i have never seen that on ur videos and i think all with this exam board is picking a quote and say something on that would get you a mark is that right?!
@GuigLit4 ай бұрын
Put simply, techniques have their place and you would get marks for considering them but they aren’t nearly as important as range/coverage of quotes and getting to grips with the meaning itself. Feel free to use them but I strongly suggest treading carefully - they should cap off any point made and not be an end unto themselves
@pampoone6234 ай бұрын
@@GuigLit would you get full marks just by picking a range of quotes and put their meanings alongside them ?!
@GuigLit4 ай бұрын
@pampoone623 I would suggest it needs to be slightly more sophisticated than that - the key term in the mark scheme for top band on such a Q is ‘detailed analysis’. I think of it like ‘hurdles’ - tie up a quote with analysis and repeat, little and often. Coverage is vitally important

Hi! This is such a great video. I'm a bit confused though. In the slides where it says "carry on for more marks" does it mean that the model example wasn't a full 10 marks and I should just keep writing like that to reach those 10 marks. Or is that exemplar already 9-10 marks? Thankyou for this :)
