I think the sharp turning or u turns works because of how the rear brakes torques up between the rear wheel and transmission if you want to turn amazingly sharp.

I have a 2017 with a hydraulic clutch. My friction zone is the last 1/2" of the clutch travel. Very little feel in the clutch. I am thinking I need to go back to a mechanical clutch.

I would agree man. The mechanical clutch is much more adjustable. Major pro on them. I don’t have much experience with the hydraulic clutches so I can’t really pro and con it for you to well. Thanks for watching!!

Wait I'm new to motorcycles is it true that you don't have to touch your throttle and bike will go without stall? and that works with every bike in the world? I got my Dyna in my garage and I'm gonna be learning how to ride next month. I did MSF 3years ago now I have to learn everything because I forgot.

Yes, as long as you move smoothly through the friction zone you can start moving without even touching the throttle.

what gears can you use the friction zone? im a beginner and I've always used it in gear 1

You typically only need to use it in first, unless your done slow speed stuff. Other then that you just travel through it smoothly while shifting.

Is the throttle engaged when in the friction zone, or can you actually take off in the friction zone without using any throttle

It is not required, however if you find you keep killing the bike add very little throttle at a time until you find the balance of throttle and friction zone.

@@Dynarider91 thank you. I enjoy riding so much but taking off causes so much anxiety.... so find the friction zone and the bike will move itself, then give it throttle to speed up?

Yes. It’s kinda like a dance using your hands, you are releasing the clutch you are adding throttle smoothly and even all the way through until your clutch is fully released. I recommend going to a parking lot and just practicing taking off until you are able to get it every time.

@@Dynarider91 i had no idea the bike would take off without giving it throttle just using the friction zone. Weather has been too cold here but hopefully trying it today

So took it out today and practiced in an empty lot. Then took it out on the road. While i still have a brain fart every now and then it was so much better today. Thank you thank you thank you for all of your help. Only thing i noticed is that my friction zone is basically almost with the throttle fully disengaged. Dont know if that is typical on yamaha vstars or not. I can rest a little easier now
