Very interesting - I'm a native English speaker, but I've also learned to speak fluent French, and I could understand much more of his Chinese than Emma's. I wonder if it's because I've learned French as a foreign language, and so my brain doesn't have to work so hard at understanding the accent?

Yes this could happen! People who speak same language would likely share the same way to think about things, as well as get used of the same accent/ way of speaking. 😆😆😆
