Coach quick question, in your opinion was the allen iverson crossover a carry ?
@TheRoadLessChosen Жыл бұрын
His was less of a carry than what players get away with today. Before Iversin the players couldn’t even have their hands on the side of the ball. Over the years it’s slowly become what it used to be today. By the “letter of the law” he carried the ball. Today it’s just a hang

@jtbarney3 Жыл бұрын
I love your videos, but using the trapezoids is just wrong. You don't need them to teach good foot work, and it teach the kids to look down when they should always be looking up to read the defense, or look at the rim. Looking down just creates bad habits. Instead of concentrating on where to place their feet they should be concentrating on how to place their feet. It's a small difference that will accelerate their learning. I also noticed, particularly with Jiggy that she's wasn't catching the ball in rhythm, particularly when moving laterally. This is quite a important detail as catching the ball in rhythm significantly increases release time and shot percentage. I know this is only a clip of their training, but it something I would have corrected. It's also a product of using the trapezoid, which is why I would lose them. Other than that your videos are top notch. Keep up the good work.
@easyw1220 Жыл бұрын
The trapezoid is teaching them how to place thier feet with proper coordination in their foot work so in game they arent looking for a particular spot but thier mind knows the body is use to the movement. The girl was just getting use to using her legs in a new way which will translate to areas outside of the drill as well.
@jtbarney3 Жыл бұрын
@@easyw1220 like I said, they shouldn't be looking down, and they shouldn't be focusing on where to place feet, but how. Even though Jiggy is just learning the new movement doesn't mean you let incorrect technique slide, and my feeling is the trapezoid is actually detrimental here as it distracts from other important details. The drill is good, but without the trapezoid, and Jiggy is clearly at a level where she can put this all together.
@kelgbrown007 Жыл бұрын
As you mentioned, you are only seeing a glimpse of the training. This could have been their first day in learning the movement, and the trapezoid teaches distance and space. When you don't have something to step into, it's hard to get an understanding of distance. It's easy to make make short choppy steps, or super wide steps. The trapezoid allows you to gauge distance, work distance into muscle memory, and then you remove the trapezoid and they will have an understanding of distance and they will not be looking down. It's like when they tie boxers legs together to give them an understanding of distance. Besides, looking down isn't' always bad when you are just learning a drill. It's like saying, you should shouldn't walk through a drill before you run through it because it teaches you to be slow. Or when the coach says, to not look down when you dribble. You are correct, you shouldn't look down when you dribble, but even Kyrie looks down to located the ball on certain moves when he is dribbling.
@jtbarney3 Жыл бұрын
@@kelgbrown007 Yes, this is only a clip of a workout session, and there's a lot more that goes into these sessions that what we see, so my points may have been addressed. Distance is relative. Relative to your defender. Relative to where you need to be on the court, such as being needing to be behind the 3 point line. Yes, every player will need to look down at some point, but the constant looking down creates muscle memory. My point is that the trapezoid is unnecessary and a coach can teach this footwork without the them, and you can accomplish more without them. I would also argue that the movements taught with the trapezoid aren't realistic in game movements. The side to side movements need to be quick and create more space, and the drill would be better by going back and forth with a pump fake to increase reps (something that could also have been addresses later in their workout). Also dribbling the ball in the trapezoid in this video is extremely bad. The first step is the most important. It needs to be with intent and needs to go somewhere. I see far to many players do this and it kills offensive production. If you're not going anywhere with the ball then you need to pass it and move to create space. Additionally, both of these kids have good enough ball handling to practice dribble shoot drills (through the legs, behind the back, etc. then shot) which are far a far more productive use of their time.

Some people always find a way to debate or criticism someone smdh. I wouldn't give a da-- if the head is up or down. Possessing these types of skills you have earned the right to do anything you want and put in the work also. To be able to put put defenders on skates is the skill period.
