For anyone else searching for a solution in 2024, I think Adobe removed the rendering of hard shadows onto background images/colors and you only get soft hazy shadows. Hard shadows are only rendered onto other 3d objects, like a flat plane. But in this case, a plane will block the image, making it pointless. Adobe keeps Dimension around but it's been mostly replaced by Adobe 3D Substance Stager, which is much better. Or, for a free but complex alternative, you can use Blender which has "shadow catchers".

I still use Dimension for a few projects that I previously put together in Dimension, but it is sadly outdated and unsupported at this point.
