Fantastic analysis Claus. All aspects count, ping, your computer, all of it. When you see 999 ping, you cant turn, stop or shoot and 2 seconds later, your tank explodes--someone had a better connection. Great talk, even about light bulbs keep it up.

Many years ago when I started playing WOT I quickly learned about the limitations that poor ms does and concluded sniping was the best chance of getting some damage. I guess that is why I was never a good brawler.Reaching 400 to 600 ping in the middle of a brawl watching helplessly as your tank jumps about and you can't control it is very frustrating. Those who criticise other players for their mediocre performance should take that into account.

~100 on Asia server from AU, until a large group of tanks appear on the screen at the same time, then it stops completely for half a second or so. Old desktop PC doesn't help, although a new video card with more ram seemed to smooth things out a bit. I used to play on NA from AU, 2-300 ms, didnt work, made it impossible, but as you say, you play slower/sniper tanks and compensate.

"Ugh, he's talkin' about ping now." Hahaha! You kill me. My ping is usually between 60 and 90. Crap system, but that's one of the reasons I play WoT. I turn all the settings down. It's one of the few games I can still play. I've never thought about how my ping may affect what tank or play style I'm using. Probably doesn't matter much to a player of my low caliber, but still interesting.

Nice video Claus, that explain the problem of south america players or any other region where you are far from server. I used to play wot in his early years up to around 2017 and had to deal with 180-230 ping on average. It was a struggle and had to adapt to more passive strategy since i couldnt do fast stuff. I even used to have that server reticle mod to have some idea where the real aiming circle was. I managed to make my stug iii and pz4h derp work to some degree. My proudest moments where when i used to win against full T67 seaclubbing platoons alone i had many memorable battles. I was the true jager.

Tony Orlando and Billy Joel in the same video. We should be so lucky!😂 When I first started playing WOT my ping was 200-400, with occasional drops to 600. I played mostly SPG and Heavy tanks. As my Internet speeds improved, I was able to play some tanks that had mobility, but it was difficult. I finally got fiber internet, and discovered another problem...frame rate. Now that my Internet could keep up, my computer could not render everything fast enough. Average frame rate now is 25-30 fps, but if there are a lot of tanks in my view, then frame rate can drop to under 10. I'm playing on low video settings, but it is frustrating to get into a one-on-one, trying to maneuver and shoot, and suddenly everything gets very choppy, and then I'm dead.

19:04 i once survived a blast like that from tier 6 OI on my matilda BP. it hit on the side of front hull. I had to replay that repeatedly, it was amazing to hear that blast hit the metal, it gave me a massive line on the hull. It kinda ripped a part of my tank.

My Ping is constantly above 220, it dictates what I play all the time, it dictates my preferred server as my closest server is Asia, but it has minimal active players available and I don't like bots as opponents, so NA it is, on a good day I may get 205, on a bad day 230 - 250, mind you I do live in outback Australia so my expectations are managed accordingly, arty is an option but the high ping makes things difficult at times, Triangle or sniping are an option, I do have the server reticule option enabled in settings to help and ping will cause missed shot opportunities at times but I live with it, on a side not I have noticed the camera zoom thing you mention, I will try your fix in the future and see how it goes, keep me entertained Claus, thumbs up from me mate.

Hey Claus - There's no question that, as you explained, a player's ping value can have a larger or smaller impact depending on the type of tank and the player's play style. However, I believe the player's overall skill level is also a factor in that the higher a player's skill level, the more the ping value matters. And, of course, the reverse is true; an unskilled player is probably making enough other mistakes that the ping doesn't matter. It's like giving a 120-stroke golfer a costly set of clubs. That $800 driver just isn't going to make a difference. For me, I'm lucky enough to have fios and a reasonably fast PC, so my ping generally ranges from 20 to 40 ms (and I do pay attention to the fluctuating value), which means I can't use that as an excuse.

As a matter of fact I always check my ping. Usually it’s good 20/30 or so. But when it goes near 100 I do SPGs. And make sure you aim for static targets.

We're pretty screwed in Australia, we went from 25-30ms ping on our ANZ server to at best 120ms ping on the new ASIA server. Games queue faster as there is a much bigger player base but the lag we suffer nearly makes the game unplayable. I have uninstalled in frustration only to be lured back in by clan mates...sucker for punishment!

Claus, that was an interesting observation: losing streak ends up with easier matchmaking and winning streak means tougher matchmaking. If that's the case then WG either uses some sort of skill based matchmaking to get you into an easier or tougher match or they scan every player in the queue and match them up based on everyone's current win/loss streak. However... What is their definition of a "streak"? Is it consecutive wins/losses or a snapshot win percentage over n games played? Is it 20-25 games or the last 100 games or something in between? How many games does the calculator include to construct a "streak"? In the end, unless they want to take from breakfast to lunch to match up a single pub match it would have to reduce to some sort of skill based calculation.

depends on a country but some mobile providers can rent you a box that has high speed internet over air. 5G or Wimax not sure some require direct visability with anthena. You may have options where you live.

Of course I always think about ping, I live in Colombia and my ping to the server (when it's good) is arounf 105 - 120, I always play in disadvantage, but there is nothing I can do, as distance increases ping. Fun fact: my ping to the SA server is higher (around 200-220)

Live on the US west coast. Never had a ping issue until WG moved the servers to the east. WG as usual assured the West coast players that play would not be affected, which is total horseshit. Now I have to pay attention to my ping and play stationary tanks when it's high.

I still play on my EU account, even though I now live in the states. The ping is terrible, but I manage by not going above tier 6 now. On my NA server it's definitely more fun.

I live in Australia and have been playing on the NA server since 2017. 17K games every single time between 250-350 ping... Sometimes it's unplayable with tanks teleporting all over the place.. Sometimes your tank is like a needle skipping on a record... And sometimes you just assume the other players must have Russian blood running deep in their veins because somehow, every single time, they always just seem to be playing from 1 second into the future.. To say I feel frustration playing this f#@!ng game is beyond an understatement! I've pulled out my hair, slammed my mouse, mashed my keyboard, sworn out loud and used every curse word imaginable screaming at little pixels on my screen being controlled by some nerd on the other side of the world! Playing this stupid game night after night, I've got 28 tier 10's in my garage, way too many premium tanks that just sit there never being played.. And my stats suck! I understand the game and how it works, have great reaction times and now after this video... I finally feel validated that yeah, MAYBE IT'S THE F#@!NG PING THAT'S SCREWING ME!!! You hit the nail on the head in this one Claus.. I definitely prefer playing TD's, and on really pingy nights I'll even jump in an SPG.. Yeah that's right... That's what bad ping does to you... makes you play arty! And 1 more thing.. If that shift key sniper mode thing actually works, then you have actually taught me something about WoT! I can't tell you how many times I've pulled around a corner to slap someone, switched to sniper mode, found myself staring at the sky and then explode! I didn't expect to learn something useful in a Kellerman video :D I'm mainly here for the epic rants and philosophy lessons that noone else dishes out like you Claus! Cheers mate!

Being a professional in the IT tech space for the last 30 years knowing about such things, no sorry but my PCs were always built to get the most from gaming through the 1990s to the present. :Lucky enough to have fibre internet, so ping is not an issue for me. As WOT doesn't require the best hardware to work effectively, my current PC is overkill for this game I occasionally play. But having 144Hz refresh rate @1440p along with 200+FPS and a ping of 20Ms probably gives me a decent edge.

Playing from Singapore on US server is misery. Maximum I can play is 220 ping, beyond which the game is unplayable. Best ping is 200... So of course I don't play mids because of the lag and concentrate in tds and hvs.

I play for a bit with 25-50 ping and then eventually I get lag on only Oyster Bay or Berlin. Half the time I play the map I get crazy lag and I die or lose the game, half the time its fine. One time I just camped in the back and played with my video setting to try and remove the lag but nothing, nothing... whatever extreme setting I used. So I don't think its the computer. Its just odd I can have fine games for a while and then it starts. But maybe its the apple IIc its running on.

Im on the SEA server via New Zealand and get 140-160 average ping, yes some nights can be shocking, but I go into sniper mode (get called camper/coward/dog alot lol) and dont rush in until absolutely needing to, cause the worst thing about high ping is you rarely detect anything (no scouting for me lol) and get spotted by everything too easily 🤨 Sent a replay to ya Claus for the "carry the stupids" section in my t34-85m with the ping playing tricks on me lol .... hope you received it 😁

Dude you talk about 150 ping. We guys from the African continent play with an average ping of 270 going up to 300. And it is like you say for example, too many times when im a 1 shot and i know that fired before the enemy but then he gets the benefit of killing me instead. WG has been adressed with this issue over the years but with no response from them. We're don't even have the option to play on other servers with much lower pings. Now you tell me...hows that for sucking at the game?

Hey Claus, I used to have a 20ms ping until wargaming changed the Asian server. It's now 140ms making the game even worse. Do wargaming care? Nah, they just making me do tests and say they are looking into it. So far they have been looking into it for 10 months.

How would you guys love ping in the range of 250-300ms!?! It's what I get on a regular basis, but I guess that's what happens when you play from Nigeria. It's possibly why I gravitate towards TDs in the main. My garage is 70% TDs, though for all my trouble Im still a 47 percenter. I don't think it would work any better with SPGs which I hate and don't even have one of in my arsenal.

When invisible tanks pops up right in front of you, it means you're fucked... And dead real quickly... That's because your low ping, the WoT software rendering speed and the visual limits of your vievrange sucks... Wargaming should have a target warning program with a hazy 'Fata Morgana' like tank silhuet just before it's rendered... Seeing a blurry unidentifiable tank in the general direction of the enemy could prepare a defensive move...
