In this episode we show you how to properly measure for a replacement barrel bushing. Replacing an old or worn bushing can help make your 1911 more accurate. To measure for a replacement, you will need a set of calipers and your 1911. Our bushing wrench and slide bore gauge can also come in handy.

Step 1
Always make sure your firearm is unloaded before performing any work.
Step 2
Field strip your 1911
Step 3
Measure the opening in the slide. This step can be a little tricky which is why we recommend the slide bore gauge. Most slides measure for .699", but different manufacturers slide dimensions do vary.
Step 4
Measure your barrel around the last 1/4". Some barrels have a larger diameter at the end, this is the part that needs to be measured, otherwise the barrel will not fit through the bushing.
Step 5
Check out our bushings on our website. We have a bunch to choose from. Carry Bevel, Thick Flange, and Melt are all just different styles of bushings. They all function the same, they just look different. Choose your bushing based on the style you like and the diameter of your slide opening (Outer Diameter as far as the bushings are concerned)
Step 6
Choose the measurement that you had for your barrel. Do not add in any tolerances, as our machinist will build the correct amount in.
Step 7
Wait for your new bushing to arrive, then install.
Step 8
Head to the range and ENJOY!
