How to measure garage door springs for garage spring replacement. Order your kit here ►www.garagedoornation.com
This page has more information on measuring if you have any issues or need examples: www.garagedoornation.com/pages...
and FULL INSTRUCTIONS available here: www.garagedoornation.com/page...
You will need to measure the spring length, wire size, and the inside diameter. The spring length is a bit flexible and usually as long as you are within 3 inches, you shouldn't have any issues. Wire size is the most important, since it determines the strength of your spring needed based on the weight and dimensions of your garage door. Please follow these instructions closely before ordering garage springs for sale.

EXTREMELY helpful!!! Thanks so much! I do have a question though: It seems that one of my two springs is 33", while the other is 36". Is that usual to have two DIFFERENT size springs on the same door?

Thanks for your videos. Question here, if you have time to answer. I'm looking to replace a 20" length spring with a 2" internal diameter spring for a 1-spring system. For the third measurement, I'm getting a 10-coil reading closer to 2 1/16", and a 20-coil reading of 4 3/16", so I'm unsure whether I'm at a .207 or a .218. Any suggestions? I have a 7'-high by 9'-wide door.

I recently had a spring snap. The door is solid fir lumber and for 30 ish years operated fine with the one spring it had installed. The spring is about ~36 inches. If I replace it with a two spring system should I have the length or size of the spring or just wind way less?

All the info same for parallel extension springs? Or would I need diff measurements? As far as I know the springs are as old as the house (been there since moved in 25+years ago) I'll have to look for style and color when I get time but I thunk it's time for a new opener so thought I'd fix the heavy door too...

Hopefully you can help me with an issue or give me some ideas. I measured and pretty sure I got it right...replaced the spring and got everything installed. When I release the door it raises by itself, indicating the spring is too tight. But after lifting the door half way, (this is a manually operated door, no opener) i have to lift to the top and then the door comes down by itself...it won't stay up, indicating the spring needs more tension...does not make sense to me???? any suggestions

Hey Tom, at the beginning of the video it says that you no longer need to take the springs down to measure them, that is awesome. Just a couple of questions, does the tension on the spring need to be released to get an accurate measurement? Also, I have two springs (like most people) are each of the springs different lengths?
@claudebieniek7272
@claudebieniek7272 2 жыл бұрын
I’m a 21 yr garage door vet, yes release the tension, be very careful when dealing with spring tension. They can be different lengths because they are different springs. We go by what is called IPPT. “ inch pounds per turn” you have to have the correct IPPT depending on the weight of your door. To much IPPT your door will be to light and won’t stay down on the floor. Not enough IPPT your door will be heavy on the floor and be hard to lift. Hope this helps. Correct spring size is very important.

"no". I was off 3/4" on mine and they work fine. I've read wire size and ID are critical, but that length can off about 1" before you have problems.
