After researching for days, yours was the first video/article I found where the thickness of door in relation to the cup hole is addressed. That, and every other detail you’ve gone over make this by far and away, the BEST instruction ever on the web!! Thank you so much!!

Charlie - after 25 years in the house, my European hinges in the kitchen have succumbed to the abuse of 4 kids - so, I find myself needing to replace the hinges on 27 cabinet doors (well not all need it, but I'll take the opportunity to upgrade to soft-close hinges) - with many of them requiring repositioning to deal with damaged MDF around some of the cups. I've watched several KZbin videos & your video is by far the best - I now am not freaking out over where to find the best hinges w/ soft close, and all the work to install them without screwing up. Thank you for the really detailed video on how to do it - including walking through the brochure, using a jig and a mockup. My blood pressure is now quite a few points lower! Great job.

Arguably the best KZbin video on this particular subject. I'm currently planning to make and fit a medium-sized door for a space underneath the stairs using concealed hinges (inset), and I've learnt so much thanks to this video. Great stuff.

First, thank you. Second, why on earth did anyone click the thumbs down? Third, helping me through a 105 page document, good grief, priceless. Mock ups rule. This is my first commercial cabinet build, and your video is one of the best. I'm going back to the drawing board, and hopefully ordering all my hinges today.

You're the man...!! Subscribed.. I'm a decorator by trade and been let down by someone who owed me a favour prior to this virus going on.. can turn my hand to most things and doing everything myself... having to make a unit I avoided this method as thought I'd wreck the MDF door.. but couldnt believe how easy and accurate it was following a couple minutes of your video.. you saved me getting more stressed..many thanks hope you and family stay safe at this crazy time..

Charlie you are a genius. I think I was going through the same pain you did trying to find the right answers. But everyone speaks gobbledygook until you start to get your head around reveals, cups, types of frames etc etc. No one makes it easy for what should be pretty straight forward. Its not the first time I have bumped into your videos and this one has been a life save before I completely gave up and used some ugly ass butt hinges. THANK YOU

This video is SO helpful. I'm just about to build a cabinet to cover a boiler out of some old IKEA wardrobe parts I got for free. They originally had sliding doors so there were no holes cut for the concealed hinges. I was dreading doing all the maths to figure out where to drill the 35mm holes so this video will be my reference through the whole process. Thanks Charlie!!!

Funnily enough I've got a load of doors to hang for my wardrobe build, and I've just rewatched this vid to remind myself how to do it 🤣 I've bought no fewer than 3 template tools on the internet, including a Blum one and no-one of them have the holes in the right place so I'm afraid it's best to work it out yourself based on the hinges you've bought.

Charlie, your advice to do a trial fit of the hinges on scrap wood is INVALUABLE. Once done you can see how they work, and then work out, first whether you should change any of your measurements BEFORE you actually cut into your doors, and later how to adjust the doors. So much easier to do with the trial piece. Thank you so much for the tip, and to everybody about to fit hinges for the first time, follow Charlie’s tip...DO A TRIAL ON SCRAP WOOD FIRST!

Great video as usual Charlie. I’m a very poor DIYer by comparison, but have one tip. I’m not sure if you’ve covered this before on your channel (I did try a search). Screws in MDF can pull out over time. One of my hobbies is installing car stereo and I learned that using screw in nutserts provides a much more secure long lasting fixing. I replaced all the screws on my amplifier rack and subwoofer cabinet with them. I’m not suggesting that they are needed by default for in house carpentry. (Vibration creates a different problem in a car). But I also have a bathroom cabinet which someone else built for us. The screws on the concealed hinge plates on that came loose after 3 years or so. It may be that they did not use enough hinges or there was some misalignment or they’ve absorbed too much moisture. I don’t know. But fortunately nutserts provide a cheap and easy fix. You can buy them for a few pence. You just drill out the hole a bit bigger, screw in the nutsert either with a hex bit or flat blade depending on type and then use a bolt rather than a screw to attach the hinge plate or whatever.

A gift of a video. Ive got a box of old Ikea hinges that I wanted to use in the workshop I'm building from reclaimed wood and now I feel a lot more confident to do so. Thanks for sharing :-)

Subscribed. Thanks for taking the time to upload this. I got a quote for £6 K to install a built in wardrobe in a bedroom (admittedly it is 6 m wide). Needless to say, I will be doing it myself. I was thinking of concealed hinges, so this was extremely useful on many counts.

Woodstraction Hi, many thanks for subscribing and for taking the time to comment. I was for quite a while too daunted to use concealed hinges but having taken the plunge I'm so glad I did. I'm sure you'll be the same! Take a look at my wardrobe building video kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2XdfY2lmM91qZI if you haven't already. You can construct the cupboard doors and drawers with pretty basic tools, without the need for sophisticated mortice and tenon joints etc. Takes a while and painting is a pain, but you'll have a constant reminder of your epic achievement when it's finished 🙂 Good luck and ping me a comment if you've got any questions.

Great video! As a time saver I usually install all the hinges on the doors, mark the bottom and top plate positions and install the doors with 2 hinges (i.e. if it is a 4 hinged door). As the door is in an open position I simply screw in the middle hinges which align automatically :)
@CharlieDIYte
@CharlieDIYte 3 жыл бұрын
That's a very good idea Andres, particularly as it's easy to click in 2 gives, not so easy with 4. I've recently used them again here kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpWwn6Ghq66hqKc

Charlie Great Video! Not too long. I've watched the key parts 3 times now! @ Andres M ... I wracking my brain around aligning a door with 3 or more Hinges... Did you align it with the 2 hinges (Bottom and Top in place i.e. clipped in) so the reveal, etc was positioned correctly then simply screwed the others in?
@andresm4456
@andresm4456 2 жыл бұрын
@@purza95 that's how I usually do it but I still mark a straight line for distance from the edge of the carcass to the center of the clip. As for the reveal I don't worry too much and just follow the instructions of the manufacturer

Great video thanks . Two comments.: Take that Ryobi drill and drop it in the nearest river. Second: make the jig with two holes for the retaining screws as well as the 35mm hole. It's incredibly easy to get those two screw holes slightly out and 1/10 mm error there amplifies to 5mm error at the other end of the hinge bracket. But thanks for other good advice

Anyhow I've liked and subscribed, excellent advice thank you very much. Off now to watch some more.

very impressive how you were able to align all four hinges. Id probably keep the hinges already snapped together, and after putting them into the door, then just hold the door to screw the other part of the hinges into the wall/side
@CharlieDIYte

That's a fair point. Only issue is if you have to take the doors off for any reason, it's easier to unclick rather than unscrew. As they're click on it's good to acquaint yourself with how they work as designed.

Loved the video, don't get too conscious about the video length, if it does get long, just put notes in the video description about time a certain part was done. I enjoy watching the videos to learn all sorts of DIY tasks that you have shown, and would happily watch a longer one if more time was needed to explain something thoroughly. Excellent video as always. Thank you for the guides and especially thanks for telling us what tools you use!

Terry Porter Thanks Terry! And I was in exactly the same position as you before I made this video. With a bit of good planning it's really quite straight forward. Go for Blum though. It's worth paying a little more for a quality hinge. Good luck!

Charlie, first of all "Thanks for making and sharing your videos"I just wanted to tell ya that I nearly chocked on me tea when you said you paid 9 pounds odd for the hinges and then 2 pounds odd for the dearer plates..loool.....I'm a cabinet maker for 22 yrs now and i've never bought from plum, but I get all of hardware from C&C fittings Waterford Ireland.(A little plug for them)and by the way, they will ship anywhere in europe I pay for soft close standard with plate 1.80 per hinge (euro) and for inset hinge like you are displaying with plate about 2.80 euro per hinge..If you were ever in need of a lot of them, it might be a good thing to do a little cross the water buying!!!! ;) ;) Keep up the good work!..

This video was essential for me in working out the Blum hinges. As an update, Blum now have a spreadsheet in the planning section of the Blum link above. If you download the XLS Blumotion planning tool for the desired application, you can input all the relevant details and on the last sheet it gives you all the details required for correctly installing the hinges. Once again though, my thanks go to CharlieDIYte for making the video - much appreciated.

Thank you so much for the tutorial! I apreciate the effort explaining the catalogue, and those little tips that nobody teaches and are so needed when you have to put these hinges.
