How to Measure Piston to Cylinder Bore Clearance

In this episode, the measuring tools needed to measure the piston to cylinder clearance are introduced. The measurements required to compute the clearance are reviewed.

The rod with the micrometer is a standard that is used to re-calibrate the mic. so you don't need a separate error table FYI. Just hoping to add to the vid....

You measuring for forged or cast pistons? Both types require different tolerances. I'm guessing it's cast, as that's factory type . Most generally forged is used for high performance with a higher expansion rate, but could still be used with stock applications.

i believe a outside blade micrometer is more accurate than a outside barrel micrometer

Great Detail. Have you tried measuring with a torque plate, or perhaps bolting down the cylinder head and measuring through the crankcase end of the cylinder?
