I was missing the pd simulator function and why my poe tester wasn’t showing me a voltage current value. Very good video. The boring stuff is the best part to understanding poe. Do not skip it! Chad, I think you have your max power delivered watts for PoE+ & PoE++ (type 3) swapped on your Power Sourcing Equipment slide starting at the 2 minute mark. Slide is incorrectly showing Type 2 at 60W and Type 3 at 30W.

I could be wrong but to test, you would need something that draws the maximum power and tells you what the wattage rating is. Otherwise you may have to measure twice with this thing.

Hi, Testing device is too good, I would like to see the same testing for 60W and 100W. Could you help on the same.

I would just take a multimeter and try to clip it to an unbraided end of 8p8c connector. I assume you could get a resistance and then use voltage to calculate load...

If i am going to run poe cameras at my home do i need a poe tester?

No. You can buy one independent POE power supply to test cameras then use POE switches. In addition, I recommend good quality connectors (without corrosion) that fit good quality cable (CAT6) and good software (not the stuff that comes with the cameras). Technically, the connectors should match the cable size. CAT6 wires are slightly larger. Thru-connectors are frowned upon but easier. Blue Iris works well for Windows and probably great ones for Linux too.

Your Amp readings do not correspond to the display on the unit. you say ONE POINT EIGHT AMPS and the meter shows POINT ONE EIGHT AMPS then you do it again with ONE POINT FIVE AMPS and the meter shows POINT ONE FIVE AMPS. 9:50 time stamp. I don't understand, which is right?
