@11:52 Mbps = megabits* per second, which is commonly how we measure data transfer rates. A bit or binary digit is a single unit 1 or 0; a byte is eight bits. Thus, a megabit is about one million bits, but a megabyte is eight million bits. At any rate, this was another great explainer video from your channel. Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks for the POE video. I just ran Ethernet cables in my old house. I have 4 cameras that are all powered by plugging into 110 volt and then the ethernet cable. I probably will update to POE after seeing this video. It increases the locations on the house that a camera can be installed.

I have a POE Lorex NVR with 12 cameras. Work great and install very easy. I also have an APC UPS 1500 powering the NVR. This protects the NVR and cameras from power surges and brown outs plus keeps the system up when power goes out. Up to the length of the battery 🔋 anyway. Should someone cut power to break in... I got it recorded.... and I still have the camera motion alert. It will run on battery for about 1 hr post power fail. I also have the UPS on a generator circuit so if it is a weather event and I lose normal power the generator will provide power. POE to me is the only way to go... centrally manage power and data.

Definitely want to keep it MUCH cleaner than my old system (bnc cameras, ALOT of cabling for the 8 cameras I had)!) so POE cameras seem to be what I will get - one cable to power it and send feeds... MUCH cleaner / easier to make it look good.

The easiest route would be to have a PC running the systems viewing software and pull the camera feeds that way! If that isnt viable, then you can try out HDMI splitters to split the HDMI signal to other monitors. If the HDMI run is longer than 50ft, you'll have to use HDMI over ethernet baluns. So with a Poe switch? I can plug in all my office computers and all of my 6 Poe cameras? So do I need to have a DVR or does the camera footage record on a cloud?
@NellysSecurity
@NellysSecurity 2 жыл бұрын
If these POE cameras you are referencing have cloud recording support, then technically yes. Just note if the cameras are constantly recording to the cloud, then it can use up a lot of data with your ISP. We like to recommend using an NVR if you are needing more than a few cameras in a system. That way they can all be viewed and recorded from a single location, and it won't eat up unnecessary bandwidth on your network.

I have appx 30ft (in a straight line) between my PC and my 2 x FHD USB webcams (30fps and 60fps each respectively). The problem is that they each refuse to stay on over the 30ft of USB powered extension cables (only one connected at a time, I had to test them separately), but when the cameras are each individually connected directly to the PC in the same room as the PC with a short USB cable, they come on just fine. I have an ethernet cable from my PC to the room where the USB end port is (though still a good 10ft apart from each other) and I have 1 Wi-Fi extension socket hub which itself has 1 RJ45 port. My question is: How can I connect both USB webcams so they can be accessed on my PC appx 30ft away at the same time (or separately) over ethernet while ensuring they get the power they need to operate (power that would otherwise be supplied via the USB cables if they were connected)? It's important I can still listen to the audio their mics pickup without the need for the video feed to be on. I'm on Windows 11. my guess was to buy some USB to ethernet adapters and an ethernet hub or a switch. If so, how would I get it all set up? Any advice welcome please. Thanks.

Can you please tell how to make a PoE cable, cause the cable provided by the manufactured is not long enough. I do crimp computer cat5e cables , there is any difference with PoE plug connection, talking about T-568B or T 568A, please advice, Andres.

is there an NVR (i currently use hikconnect) that allows you to run 1 ethernet cable from the poe switch into the nvr? right now i have to plug all 16 cameras into the back of the nvr, but with a switch i’m wondering how the data gets to the nvr?

The NVR's internal switch provides power and data to the cameras over the ethernet cable. It will be totally segregated from the local network.

Hi, Just curious.. will the PoE switch once connected to an ethernet cable and an IP camera determine the power needed for each camera or will it automatically send 48V out and thus frying a camera that only uses 9V?

POE voltage is very different than the straight power input connection of a camera. I would check your camera's spec sheet to verify what POE voltage it supports. If your camera indeed only needs 9V over POE, then your camera more than likely would not power on.

@@NellysSecurity Thanks for the reply.. it is a wireless/IP camera but not PoE and I was thinking I would turn it into a PoE camera but at 9V I cannot.. I will just use the wires to supply the power outlet power to the camera instead.

I'm confused. I have some camaras that work with 19V and 1.5 Amps. How is voltage mixed on this?

As a retired electrician I have a question. Say in a small office maybe 10,000 square feet. This might require 40 2 by 4' drop in fluorescent fixtures. I would use at least 3 circuit breakers to feed it. With PoE would you only use 1 box to supply all of the LED lights. When the box or curcuit is lost the entite office would go dark. Almost every IT people suck at installing all cables in drop ceilings. Saw clowns just lay a hundred cables on top of drop ceiling titles making it impossible to open bulging ceiling title. Would beg them to do cable pulls in a workmanship maner and they said sure.

confused now, i was looking into some POE switches thinking that i can have my hub powered on and then be able to power a poe switch directly from my hub into the POE switch via ethernet cable ? would i be correct with this ? our loft where most of the cameras would be set up and wired through has no power and dont rlly wanna have an electrician come out to make a sput in the connections. is it possible for me to do with it ? so hub - switch - ethernet cable from switch into loft through poe switch then switch to camera will it power the camera or will i need something else
