Thank you for the video mate. Really helps alot. But the micrometer scratches my crankshaft journal when i move it to get the measurements. So scratches I can really feel it when i try to feel from my finger nail. Will those scratches later effect with any particles getting stuck between them? Please educate me with this type of situation because I cannot find a right answer for this. Thanks in advance

You are being far too heavy handed with the micrometer. It should have a ratchet mechanism on the bottom of it to stop adding too much pressure. I am afraid if the crank is scratched it will need grinding out by an engine engineering workshop

I saw you had three decimal, centesimal and milesimal digits on some of the measurement. If the micrometer is 0.01mm accuracy, how do you get that third digit..?

There are micrometers that will go to another decimal place but they are very expensive. I had to compromise on these.

When i see the marker is between 2 increments on the micrometer shown then i know it is .005mm.

Is there some advantage to a flat plane crank in an inline 4 cylinder?

Now that is a question. Flat plane crank and cross plane cranks have their uses in engine applications but it is out of my knowledge area TBH. Plenty of stuff on the internet about the applications for either. I just accept what is used in an engine and make the best of what I have. Especially with old diesel engines.
