OMG! I've been struggling with this for 20 YEARS!!! I've gotten so confused and discouraged that I had given up. Thank you so much for all your help! I'm inspired to learn my triad inversions now - knowing 7th Chords won't be too far behind. I will have to work at it, but I know it won't take FOREVER! Thank you for this clear explanation and for giving me hope!

Chord fingering videos are an excellent idea. I am already ok on the theory side from playing a bit of Guitar but the finger placing side of it is my biggest problem rather than the theory side.

In answer to your question, 'What music have you learned that uses 7th chords?", I've found versions of Rod Stewart's rendition of "I'll Be Seeing You"; "These Foolish Things"; "The Way You Look Tonight" and "What a Wonderful World" allow me to enjoy the beautiful sound of 7th chords in C7; A7; D7 and G7. You are a very good teacher! This video encourages me to explore the sounds of other songs that employ 7th chords I've yet to learn. Thanks and Happy New Year 2025

That was very helpful. I've transcribed Prélude en Do Majeure by Bach into Thoroughbass. Now I'm transposing it into all the other keys. My teacher is impressed. But my ear is weak. And I'm still trying to master my triads, and for now mostly majors. Now I'd like to move onto minors and yes, sevenths. I've been playing for two years, and I'm still working on this? I'm not bothered since I started with no muical training at 65 yoa. Luckily I saw your videos about chords and chord inversion, and they are really the best on the Tubes. I will start on this step until it's mastered. Who cares how long it takes, I don't want to make any shortcuts. I decided long ago not to think I could play Jazz. I heard someone say that you should be at level 8 to play Jazz, and I agree. i don't want to be a mediocre jazz player, I'd rather be a good beginner.

Great lesson,I have been strugging with 7th chord inversions for years now you have made them clearer I am really grateful. But the tricky thig is how to shape these inversions ? I.e how to apply them which fingers to use
@PianoFromScratch Жыл бұрын
Yes some of them can be a bit trickier to actually play with a few more awkward positions to navigate. Getting into the fingers and hand placement was a bit of a bigger discussion really - too much to fit in the same video as well so I made the decision to stay focused on just recognising the positions for this one. I will be doing other videos on chord fingerings (there's always different options) but often people be stuck because they're holding their hand in the wrong spot, you may find this video useful kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2XQhmOrqpJjd9k

What is the name of this chord in G major? The first chord is EGAE. This is available in the 1st bar of Easter anthem by Charles wesly &w.Berwald.
@PianoFromScratch10 ай бұрын
EGA is an Esus4 chord - E is 1(Root of the chord), G is the 4th and A is the 5th. In the key of G major that is a chord 6 (vi) because it begins on the 6th degree of the G major scale 👍
