This is my first attempt at trying a memorization technique for lyrics. I have been a singer for 35 years and as I'm getting older I am finding that I need a tool now. Thank you for your lessons. I will need this for my upcoming New Year's Eve gig in NJ.

This is good stuff! I may not be joking when I'm saying that perhaps the biggest obstacle I've found when it comes to learning how to sing is the ability to remember lyrics. I have a tendency to be quite tense whilst performing because I'm afraid I will forget the lyrics (or timing) of the song. It pulls me out of the feeling and emotion of a song and into my head, also making me sing with less freedom and quality. Talking about timing, rhythm and the general melodic structure of the song: Do you have any specific tips for memorizing that?
@AnthonyMetivierMMM11 ай бұрын
Memorizing definitely leads to singing with greater freedom and the possibility for interpretation. In terms of timing, the general rule is if you can say it or speak it, you can understand it. So when I was on tour with my most complicated band and had a hard time with some of the progressive timings, I always figured them out verbally first and sung-spoke them. For understanding melody, theory is the key. Memorizing things like the modes and concepts like hexaphonic transpositions, etc. are massively assisted by having a solid foundation in beginning and ideally intermediate mnemonics. Does this way of looking at things make sense and help you out?

I've chosen a song called " A Dios Le Pido". I will memorize this song because I am learning Spanish. I think that is a very good idea. I wish I can memorize "heart sutra" but it is very difficult and I don't understand the words. To memorize the song I think I need to understand the words, don't I?

Wow - that is a great song - thanks for mentioning it! Heart Sutra is fun to memorize in Mandarin. I do not agree that we need to understand the text first and have made an extended explanation of why I think this is true here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmHIgZSHZ96AjLM Please consider what I'm saying and then see if it makes sense for you. I'm sure it will and then you can get busy memorizing and understanding information in any language much faster. :-)

Hey anthony is there a way to memorize dances quickly ? As a dancer its where I struggle so I would like to know if there would be an excercise aside from repitition to improve muscle memory ?

Yes, there are some ways to do this. I imagine most dance classes would cover the basic forms and these can be projected on walls in Memory Palaces.

hello, what is the best way to learn songs in foreign language, where I don't understand the lyrics?
@AnthonyMetivierMMM9 ай бұрын
Having done this many times, I suggest using the Magnetic Memory Method.
@Suresh-br2zz9 ай бұрын
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM ok does the method use visualisation techniques such as memory palaces, since the lyrics are in sanskrit & I have zero understanding of them as mentioned, so it is difficult to create visualisations of the words and auditory understanding is very minimal. So how would magnetic memory method work in this case, since it mainly uses visualisation techniques?
@AnthonyMetivierMMM9 ай бұрын
As you'll discover in the Magnetic Memory Method Masterclass, there are hundreds of examples for Sanskrit. Even better, you don't have to visualize or create images. In fact, creating images is way too much work. Hope to see you in the course!

Dr Anthony, if a song or a speech has 70 words , how to place in each station of memory palace? Or i need to group the words to multiple sentences ?. Based on these 10 sentences, assign to 10 stations in memory palace? have just bought the master clase. I have not gone through all yet. Many thanks for the great video and course 🤠 love it 👍👍👍👍
@AnthonyMetivierMMM4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this question. How to place information in Memory Palaces is something each person discovers through practice. I would suggest having a look at the demonstration video at the beginning of the Masterplan for a detailed discussion. I used that same Memory Palace to memorize my TEDx talk: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oafXip2ap86Gpq8 In it, I placed between 11 and 17 words per station on average. This means that I didn't force each station to have a full sentence. Sometimes a sentence would go over 2-3 stations. Does this answer help you out? :-)

I play guitar and would like to sing. I have tried all the tricks and I go blank on the first chord. I very often can't even remember the first line.
@AnthonyMetivierMMM2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this. Can you say more about the "tricks" you tried?
@TheTimeProphet2 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM Some say if you visualise pictures in your mind you can remember things, but I can't remember the pictures. Also tried writing down the first letter of each line and memorising that, but I still can't remember. I very often go completely blank on the first line of a song, even if it is my favourite song. If a song is playing and I hear a line, I can very often remember the next line, but if it isn't playing I go blank. I can't give you precise videos I have watched, because that is the problem with having a poor memory, I can't remember them. Strangely though I can usually remember the chords to a song, but I suppose there is a lot less to remember there.
@AnthonyMetivierMMM2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this. In the approach I'm sharing, the pictures aren't memorized because they're already in memory. I would suggest exploring the approach more so that you're not trying to remember using pictures, or even using pictures that need to be remembered at all. That's unlikely to be effective. Ultimately, poor memory is solvable in the same way weak muscles are typically solveable. But like muscles, if you aren't using the right tools in the gym, you can wind up getting little or no results. But when the right tools meet the right processes, very tight and powerful muscles will emerge. Memory is just like that if you train it well.
@TheTimeProphet2 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM I understand what you are saying, but I have never been able to see the pictures in my brain. When I close my eyes I do not see a picture. I am very creative. I play guitar and I make youtube videos, but I have never seen anything when my eyes are shut, but vague shadows, sometimes colours.
@AnthonyMetivierMMM2 жыл бұрын
I used this techniques for nearly 20 years before I started to experience what I believe people call "seeing" images in their brain. It's simply not necessary to see images in order to use mnemonics and there are memory competitors with aphantasia who do very well. So this is not the topic to spend too much time on (though I have covered it many times on this channel, also with interviews with one memory competitor in particular well-known for not seeing images). Creativity also has little or nothing to do with memory techniques. It's great, but not necessary for using memory techniques. Long story short: I need memory techniques to memorize lyrics myself. I normally don't see images in my mind and I don't particularly use my creativity to use mnemonics. That would simply take too long, and too much energy.
