This is the BEST advice I’ve seen on You Tube on ‘How to build a repertoire of songs” thank you very much for breaking this down into manageable bites!

Thanks for this video, it is very helpful. I've been playing for 30 years and have always had issues with remembering songs. I'll try and implement these ideas into my practicing.

QUESTION: how many songs should I be learning at a time? FOLLOW UP: how many exercises should I incorporate into my daily routine? Thanks for this video. It is something I really struggle with and there were a lot of helpful things here.

Glad you found the video helpful Mark! Your questions are not unlike "How long is a piece of string" :) It depends on many things. Regarding songs as a rough guide, maybe 2 or 3, but again there is no definitive answer. I have a video coming out in the near future that deals with the topic of building repertoire and suggests a system for working on multiple songs simultaneously, so look out for that. Regarding, how many exercises? Again, it depends. How much time do you have to practice? What are your goals? What I would say is, make sure you know exactly what the exercise is achieving for you. Don't do exercises for the sake of doing exercises, you must be able to answer the question: I am doing this exercise because it is going to help me . . . . I hope this helps Mark :)

Hi Simon, I have tried to download the e-book you mention in this video but keep getting an error message - can you send it to my email?

Hi Mark, what is the error message you receive? And what browser are you using? I want to fix the issue if it is something on my end so others don't encounter the same issue you are having :)

How can I "hear a song in my head"?
@acousticguitarlessons7 ай бұрын
@music4ever.87, by listening to it a lot of times. Surely you can recall songs in your mind right now that you know well becasue you have heard them a lot :) Even just a simple melody like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for example.

No shame in using the sheet music. Just enjoy playing. It’s all good.

@@johndelconte9915, sure, there are plenty of times one needs to read sheet music when playing on the spot, etc :)

@@acousticguitarlessons I enjoyed this video. I always had a memory problem. Now they call it attention deficit disorder. When I was a kid they called it dumb. I been playing for many years now and know how to play a lot of songs, but it seems when anyone asks me to play a song, I can’t think of one, so I created a list of songs that I know I can play from memory. In fact I had to watch this video twice. LOL , but I have been using some of the ideas in the video. Especially playing the song in my head without an instrument. I find once I can do that, it’s pretty much committed to my memory. Keep up the good work. I watch all your videos.

@@johndelconte9915, I also struggle to remember my repertoire, as in the songs I've learned and memorised :) If I don't play the pieces semi-regularly, they'll go, but I can always re-learn then quickly. I appreciate you checking out my videos :)
