Idk enough about DND to know where mimics lay on the creature intelligence scale but imagine it being more like a pet than a friend? Like in the sense that pets can be loyal but fickle, it'll come to your aid in battle but it can randomly decide to stop working or give you an unexpected nibble and you have to figure out if it's playful or hungry enough to turn on you, it gets picky with what it eats and spits things it doesn't like back out at you, etc 😂 imagine a very spoiled housecat that would still try and fight off a dog for you if it had to like that one clip of a cat scaring off a big dog that was trying to hurt its owner's kid or whatever lol

My DM and I Headcannoned Salt as a minor weakness. As in a handfull of table salt. The idea was that so much salt so suddenly will make anything that tastes it react, good or bad. Horses may love it, but it will kill a snail. Dumping a handful of salt into a bag does nothing but get a little salt in the bottom of your bag, no harm done. Dumping a handful of salt into a *mimic mouth*, however...

My Buddies character tamed a mimic once. We didn't ask, and the d.m. just shook her head in disgust at how badly she rolled. So yeah, he would feed it the stuff we couldn't sell for obvious reasons and the cursed stuff we couldn't reconfigure into useable weaponry (cursed artificers are terrifying, by the way). It would happily store other stuff nice and safely it also ate one of the bbegs of a multiple campaign we did. His name was Kest, for he was an ambulatory chest.

I've seen this DM back and forth on another channel too. The gist of the scenario is that the players are supposed to find the bag, be too stupid to detect magic or anything on it, assume it's a normal bag of holding only to later to discover it's something like a bag of devouring. Though in the last one they didn't talk about losing a hand, just half of the loot.

@saliosnoctin7797
@saliosnoctin7797 Күн бұрын
@@NobodyAwsum Well....knowing what I know of mimics, even the bagman would avoid the mimic bag of holding due to the risk of being devoured or digested by said mimic for a mimic is not picky on what or whom it eats so long at it eats. So I'd assume the bagman would be smart enough to avoid it at all costs, or at least know when a bag of hold has become infested with a mimic. Though as a more devilish thought you could have the bagman be the one that randomly leaves a mimic bag of holding in a spot that a group could find, meaning the mimic was actually a pet of the bagman.

iv alway thought this, my logic explains the old trope of chests in dungeons, they were once heavy duty chests of holding used to house the material to build the ancient dungeon but as the magic leaks out from their advanced age extra dimensional creature latch on to the magic and fuse with the item, making a chest mimic, so that ancient wizard door that leads to his personal pocket dimension is a door mimic, and bags of holding being relatively new and low magic power in comparison would be the last items effected and as such no fail safe have even been considered. so if you like your mimic style like dark souls where they sprout limbs or have long barbed tongues for combat expect a surprise other than a missing limb when reaching in. 😂😂😂

I helped out a friend with a similar concept. I lent him my cursed item salesman and the party picked up the “Bag of Rats” (homebrew, you can find it somewhere). it functions like a bag, you can put stuff in it. But the moment you take something out of it the bag discourages everything and spits out a crap ton of rats. From what I heard one of the party members actually died.

Another bag that I always found fun was introduced in Pathfinder 2e Revised's GM Core, but can be easily adapted (heck, you don't need to change anything!) to D&D: the Bag of Ferrets. Basically, it works exactly like a Bag of Holding, but whatever you put inside has a 50% chance to be permanently turned into a ferret. Sure, you can disenchant the ferret and get your +3 sword back - but first you have to catch it. And it has to be gentle, because if the ferret dies... you get a dead ferret. Disenchanting is no longer an option after the little mustelid is a corpse.

Yes. Finally. A place to share my evil mimic ideas. You have already heard of mimic coins, mimic bags and mimic potions, but there is a new level of evil already in development. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you: mimic armor. It looks, feels and acts just like your average set of armor. Which one specificallt depends on which player you want to kill. Usually full plate works best. The set of armor is very good, and protects well, but arter reaching a certain damage threshold it will crack, awakening the mimic. Now you have a player covered head to toe in a layer of metal covered shapeshifter. It is a death sentence. that is the end. If you want to be extra evil, give one of your players a prosthetic mimic. Most people dont know this, but mimics can enter a comatose-like state for a few months by covering themselves with mutated bone. If the bone is broken in that time, out will come a very angry, very hungry mimic. Also, theres the forever effective mimic stacking. Sure, that set of armor might be s giant mimic, but it might also be a colony of almost 50 mimics living in unison. A mimic is just like a ladagna, after all. You can just but a bunch of mimics on top of one another to make a bigger mimic.

Hide mimics inside a hard candy shell and put those "candies" in a bowl with other candies. When your players do a perception check, they can only check the candies that are visible, so the candies on the bottom which have the mimics are not checked. And if you want to get really technical you could have each candy in a paper wrapper, so when those get checked before the player touches the candies, a perception check again only checks what they can directly see, which is the wrappers and not the candy inside the wrappers.

Mimic bag of holding has a better plan. Instead of loosing loot, train it to be an ally. When you need to get something back give it food. Train it when you want something back it gets a treat. Then it could also be used as a booby trap by dropping it. The next person who sees it thinks "hey, I got a free bag of loot". But because they didn't give it the treat you used to train it, it devours the person who stuck their hand in your bag.

They later find their magic items perfectly fine, but are confused to find most all the organic things they dumped in the bag are missing. The party unknowingly have been feeding the mimic meat and creating an unspoken pact where it keeps the magic items safe while the party provides it food, basically taming it. The party only ever finds out because some guy one day tries to pickpocket the party and the bag eats the hand as someone who isn’t part of the party enters the bag and the mimic defends the loot.

Keep track of the bags items and delete items after a set amount of time/sessions of it being unused(say they put a +1 dagger in and they dont take it out after two sessions, then its gone the third) that way it causes chaos without being evil, you could also limit the items it devours to things like food or certain potions for a more relaxed item that can also be used for corpse removal

To keep things moving along, you could change up how Mimics work a little bit. Instead of losing things, their items will sort of get... Mashed together. On the one hand, this can spoil your potions and food. On the other hand, if you shove some silver in there, along with a steel sword, you might end up pulling an electroplated Steel-Silver sword. As the DM, you could either roll dice to determine what they pull out, or, use the power of plot to give them what they need. Or, y'know, have the bag come to life and sprout arms to wield stored weapons and become a boss. If they win, they get to keep their stuff and get a bag of holding. If they lose, the next party has to fight the Mimic plus the old party. Because inducing terror and pain is the idea, I guess.

Another silly idea to sow distrust in Bags of Holding Bag of Substitution - Functionally a Bag of Holding, any item placed inside is stored in the exact same manner and an attempt to retrieve it can be done at any time and as frequently as desired. Upon attempted retrieval of a specified item that was stored in the bag, a D20 is rolled by the DM to determine the relative accuracy of the item actually retrieved. A Natural 20 would result in the exact item desired, while a Natural 1 would result in a bizzare (and potentially dangerous) item being retrieved instead. Any other roll results in an item that is in some way or form interpreted as being 'Similar' to the initially requested item. From as simple as retrieving a copper coin instead of a gold coin, to reaching for a bow and getting the hemp the bowstring was made from

That random list also included each individual card from the deck of many things, and the first time we used it the skull card was drawn, resulting in a TPK. DM put a lot of work into that item. Lead to a lot of laughs, but i still say it was his fault for giving that to a 5 person, 3rd level, alignment diverse party.

My way to expand the concept, players kill the Mimic, it leaves behind a stone, the stone reacts to the player that lost the hand, they now have skills based around the loot in the bag and a way to hide it

ya but your basically feeding your pet at that point so it grows attached to you and never wants to leave, so if it senses your truly in danger it will cough up the most insane item but it actually helps.. ie you fall in a pit and need rope to get out, heres TNT to blow up a wall to the exit... now you just gotta survive the explosion

Mimic of Holding that actually IS enchanted to hold a shitton of items and you just find Old Man Jenkins in there and if you give it food items every once in a while it will not in fact eat your hand

Or plot twist: put 2 dragons in that bag of holding, when they would need a 2nd one, because whomever rolled the least for a bag of holding reciever doesnt get it and would have to buy it/all combined to not have a certain amount of numbers for the entires party rolling for. Theyd have to buy the said bag of holding. It would have 2 dragons in it. Then. They buy it, put a singular gold coin in it, couldnt. Then when they try to pull, out whatever was in it, it would be the 2 dragons, basically a non-avoidable first boss fight for under leveled players, or the best way to start a dnd session for the next adventure

Mimics don't eat items they eat people, they actually have items inside to lure in people. But there's a monster for this exact thing that exist already it's called a bag man, and he's just a friendly little guy in your bag until he's not.

Instead of it, being a mimic that attacks make it so it is a Mimic. that eats literally anything. Human being is favorite And then make a mimic book That reads, there's an item called the bag of wormholes and it teleports all their items to one place The players might try to do is go into the bag of holding

Once had kind of the opposite idea for a cute silly character idea. A goblin with a bag he thinks is a mimic because the stuff he puts in it keeps vanishing, but turns out there is just a hole in the bottom and he is too dumb to notice 😂 he puts random things inside to feed the 'mimic' and it all just eventually falls out.

I’d argue you’d either have to give a fair clue that something is not right with the bag or you wouldn’t be able to keep up the charade long because I don’t see the mimic just not digesting things for that long

A Mimic in object form, in this case a Bag of Holding, also has the permanent ability of Adhesive. Claiming a Bag of Holding is a Mimic would alter one of the fundamental aspects of the Mimic. As a DM, you're entitled to do this in your own homebrew game but in an actual "Official" DnD campaign,it couldn't happen.

You sir have not encountered the bag man yet and it shows. The bag man was once an adventurer just like us all. However one day him and his party were ambushed by monsters in the wilderness. They fought desperately and for a long time killing wave after wave. Then finally a large enough hoard to dwarf the previous ones had arrived and surrounded them. The adventurer was terrified and it poisoned his mind against his other companions. In a last ditch effort for his own self preservation he fled… through his own bag of holding never to be seen again. Some say he died trying to enter the bag. Some think it was starvation that got him, but I know the truth. I see him in the night every once in a while opening my bag of holding from his side to get a peak out. He steals stuff that he can reach from the bag. Usually food. However I have heard stories of adventures going missing with only a bag of holding as evidence. This made me wonder what if it was him. Transformed and mutated by the extra dimensional space. I wonder what would happen if I tried entering myself. Suddenly the rest of the party screams as the story teller on the other side of the camp fire pulls out a skull he hid in his bag of hold for just this moment.
