All cars have a way to access with a manual key in the event of battery failure. The method varies. The most bizarre is a current model mclaren.

What has the door bit got to do with starting the car? Is it just one of the ways to open the door or do I have to take that piece from the door in order to start the car?

No, you don’t have to take that piece out to start the car. Saying that, when key’s battery or sensor failed, you won’t be able to get in without going through the door bit anyway.

Hi Jerry, I enjoy your videos thanks for sharing again. Just thought I’d give you some feedback regarding the MG HS ESSENCE as it’s known here in Australia. Had the car now for 5 months & unfortunately it has so many electronic issues it’s damaging the reputation of MG. Here are a few examples, BTW, ALL these issues were also experienced by many MG HS owners. ( MG owners Australia) Car doesn’t pickup FOB, so car won’t open. Car won’t start. (Yes, foot is on the break) Tailgate opens or closes halfway. Tailgate closes but won’t lock. Tailgate won’t close at all. ( tried every button ) Bluetooth disconnects randomly. Lane keeping assist disengages randomly. I believe in the UK they have issued a software update to try & eliminate some of these issues. I have heard nothing in Australia about a software update. Very disappointing as it’s a nice looking vehicle, but nice doesn’t mean good.

I think a few issues you mentioned were actually easy fix and are not related to the vehicle build quality or electronic issues. I will try to go through more MG tutorial stuff in the future so it is easy for everyone to understand all the features. Next MG tutorial video I will talk about the MG HS tailgate. Thanks

I’m from uk and have the zs exclusive option in manual. Yesterday I was stranded in a petrol station for 30 mins. Tried all this and nothing. Then it started to work again, and worked fine went to the next shop and it started again. I can get in the car fine just can’t turn on the car - sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t 🤷🏻

Hi Jerry, after replacing the battery on my key fob, now it locks/unlocks the doors but the engine doesn't start since it doesn't detect the smart key inside the vehicle even when it is physically inside. Do I need to re-programme to be able to start the engine with it?

Depending on your vehicle, if it comes with heated side mirrors, it will work when you use rear windscreen demister.

Jerry came back from two weeks holiday looks like battery dead , tried to do what you showed in video- it didn't work for me , car didn't start , and can't even open charging flap to charge vehicle, luckily I didn't left vehicle on airport parking, I scared now to leave it unused for too long , it is brand new MG HS Phev 22 year registration, any suggestions how to open manually charging flap ?

Sounds like a dead 12V battery. You can get in and jump start. The 12V battery is located below the boot floor. Check the 12V battery at a dealership and they will be able to tell if it is good or not. This has nothing to do with HV battery.
