How to migrate your crypto from your Ledger Nano S (or Nano X) to your Ledger Nano S Plus?

Excellent video! A quick word to newcomers, never, EVER show/reveal/share/speak your recovery phrase to anyone at anytime, like how this gentleman does on camera. This is of course NOT his real phrase. Secondly, you're technically not migrating your crypto onto another device; you're simply restoring a wallet onto a new device and are cloning your old device, to have two devices with the same funds on it. He does a wonderful job of simplifying this! Thanks Ledger!!

Very helpful, thank you! I had mistakenly set up my S Plus with a recovery phrase and a couple of apps before I found this video, but hadn't yet added any accounts. I figured out that by doing a reset (Settings > Security > Reset Device), which cleared this new recovery phrase and all apps, I was able to start following the video instructions as if my device were brand new from the factory.

Very nice! The important thing is always to make sure that you use the Ledger to generate a new set of recovery phrase. This way you can make sure that seed phrases have never been touched by anyone previously.

By copying your recovery phrase, all your ERC20 (tokens) and ERC721 (NFTs) are "migrated" over, even though it's not really a migration, but just a restoration.

@@AlbHack3r if you lose your recovery phrase or passphrase you are f*&ked. thats why by default its turned off. assuming peolpe that turn it on are understanding what it does. if you are able to successfully secure 24 words, you should be able to secure 1 more. especially one you created. but yes you are right. if you loose those words you are toast.

Question, once you do the migration/restore from S to the S+ and have done the factory reset on the S is it now safe to sell it ? Or can the new owner recover your 24 words from the original S ?

Hi there - once factory reset, the Nano is wiped clean entirely. It won't have any history on your previous private keys so it's safe to resell. Obviously, if you do not have a backup, it's probably a good idea to save it as a backup device in case the Nano S Plus gets lost.

Hello, unfortunately not, a Ledger device can hold one set of 24 words recovery phrase at a time! You can either transfer your funds from your Nano S to your S Plus, and then reset the Nano S and then "restore from recovery phrase" so it backups the Nano S. support.ledger.com/hc/articles/4404382560913-Restore-from-recovery-phrase?support=true Or you can keep your funds separated by 2 devices with separate accounts not relating to the same 24 words recovery phrase!

Great video. Thanks so much. A recovery list question.... I have been entering the initial letters and sometimes it works well and other times no. Some letters they show are not clear. Some are strange looking signs hard to decipher. Do you use right or left click? I have the latest version. When I get the word right it indicates it´s correct. Sorry for so many words... Anna

Hey, to clarify, what do you mean by entering your words? The 24 words recovery phrase are generated once from the Ledger device and should be kept safe and off any online software. You will only use the 24 words recovery phrase if you want to recover them on a new device. Hey, to better clarify, If you have set up multiple devices with different recovery phrases, each device controls a different set of accounts. In that case, follow these tips:  You can create as many accounts as you like by following this guide. However, when you create an account with a specific device plugged in, this account will be linked to that device and can be used only with that device. I recommend that you name them differently to differentiate between the accounts  However, there is currently no way to have different passwords in Ledger Live. This means that every time you log in to Ledger Live, you will see all accounts and balances created with all the devices.  To differentiate between accounts, I recommend that you name them all differently (for example: ‘A’ account connected to Ledger device A, ‘B’ account connected to Ledger device B, and ‘C’ account connected to Ledger device C). Read this article for more information on how this kind of setup would work.  To rename your accounts, go to the Accounts tab and choose an account. Click on the wrench icon in the upper-right corner and click on Account name.  Always connect the device associated with the selected account when sending or receiving crypto assets. So after u do this and keep the same seed phrase when u buy different coins than what was on the nano s since theres not very much memory what happens when u plug the s in does it on list the coins bought on the s since it wouldn't have enough memory to display all the new coins bought on the plus ? Hi, your NFTs and cryptos are stored on the blockchain and not on the device, the device just gives you access to them via the 24 words recovery phrase it holds! Memory size is not effected by amount of cryptos/NFTs, but on the size of the apps downloaded! So once you restore your Ledger Nano S plus with the same 24 words, you will be able to manage all your exisiting account with your new device. We hope this helps clarify.

I asked a question on another video and this cleared it up for me. So you can't use a recovery phrase for 2 devices because the information is transferred to the new device. So if you want to add more crypto you need a second device with its own recovery phrase but how do they connect together onto ledger live. I belive in the newer video you show they can both be maintained on ledger live. I have also had issues with my NANO S with its connectivity so I guess the best bet is to just move it to my newly bought NANO S PLUS

Hello, Sorry it is not possible to migrate both Ledger Nano S to your Ledger Nano S plus since Ledger device can only hold one recovery phrase at any given point in time. So you can transfer all your assets to one Ledger Nano S accounts. And then migrate to your new Ledger Nano S plus. We hope this helps clarify.

Hi, you transfer your funds first to temporary accounts. Those can be Hot wallets such as Metamask. After that, you reset your device by entering three times the wrong PIN code. Once you have done this you can set up your device with a new seed phrase

Look above. He said you first have to combine the 3 into 1 and then just transfer that one. You can't transfer all 3 into 1 S Plus. Only one.

Hi, you do not need to transfer anything. If you setup your Ledger Nano X with the same 24 words seed phrase that you generated with your Nano S then you're good to go. You can now manage your assets with both your devices. You can use Ledger Nano X as the main device and Ledger Nano S as a backup.

We can help you with your request. Since your both BTC accounts are linked to different seed phrases, you'll need to send your assets from your old BTC account to the new. However, sending the funds from one account to another will incur fees and there is no workaround for this

Hello there, Yes it is normal for the Nano X to ask you to install the apps manually as your seed phrase doesn't carry information that would allow the device to know which apps you had on your previous device. A very easy way to check that your device is correctly set up with the right Recovery Phrase is to try to verify the receiving address of one of your previous accounts you can follow those instructions to do so support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4404389453841-Receive-crypto-assets?docs=true
