How to Use the Sketch Mirror Command in Fusion 360. The sketch mirror command can be activated from the sketch dropdown list or from the right-click sketch menu.
The sketch mirror command lets you mirror or reproduce the selected sketch geometry on the other side of the selected mirror line. It’s important to note that the sketch mirror command does differ from the mirror command located in the create dropdown list. The sketch mirror command only works for 2-dimensional sketches, whereas, the create mirror command works with faces, features, bodies, and components.

Your series of Fusion 360 tutorials are the absolute best, I went from zero to completing a manufacturing project in three weeks, never used F360 before. The pace of the narration is perfect, the structure of the lessons are very logical. It's good that you show how mistakes could be made, and hoiw to avoid them.

Very clear and concise that was driving me crazy that mirror sketch and mirrors create, pretty silly you would think the program would handle that if you're working on a sketch or an object body.
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Mike! I agree with you - they certainly could make it a little more intuitive to where the program selects the correct mirror command based on the environment you are in. It would be interesting to see tabs within the dialog that let you toggle back and forth for the commands that are available in both the sketch and modeling environments. I wouldn't mind them changing the appearance of one of the mirror icons so the difference is not so subtle. Cheers, Kevin :)

Thanks Kevin. Do you have content that covers pattern/mirror of component and bodies? It often doesn’t work. Not an issue w sketch.
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, I don't have an individual video on that (yet), as I explain that throughout several project based videos. It's likely your compute option that needs changed to get the modeling mirror/pattern to work. I explain them here - productdesignonline.com/tips-and-tricks/mirror-command-not-working-in-fusion-360/#compute

Any thoughts on an advanced mirror tutorial? One challenge I have is creating mirror replicas of complex assemblies. I know that joints are tricky (some joints like 'as build' can be copied when using the 'pattern' feature, but autodesk has acknowledged that mirroring joints hasn't yet been resolved due to the inverted geometry. So for example, if you were making something like the steering column or a dash display for North American cars, then wanted to make it for UK cars (steering wheel and dashboard is on the opposite side), how would you recreate that?
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Jason. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to create some more tutorials with mirroring. I would suggest mirror 3D geometry when possible over mirroring sketch geometry. As you mentioned, there are unfortunately some quirks and workarounds need with joints, etc. As of now, the only thing to do with your car example would be to mirror the entire dashboard and then "remove" the original component or body. Cheers, Kevin :)

I'm trying to copy a sketch (duplicate) and then have it mirror the first sketch but not share the same mirror line. I need them to be two separate parts for i need space between the two sketches. Thanks!
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, RhynoRekz. You will have to use the mirror command twice to do that. One per each sketch. You may also find it beneficial to mirror the 3D geometry with the solid mirror command instead of the sketch mirror command. Cheers, Kevin :)

how do i mirror or copy a component/body and have the history timeline repeated as well?
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Aryan. Great question. This video is on the Sketch mirror command, that only works with 2-dimensional sketch geometry. If you select the mirror command form the "create" dropdown list, you'll be able to mirror or copy 3-dimensional objects...including faces, features, bodies, and components. The modeling mirror command will also include the feature as a parametric item in the timeline at the bottom. Cheers, Kevin :)

so issue here is that I don't seem to have the model menu, only design, render, animation, simulation, manufacture and drawing menus, and none of them have the sketch mirror option you start out with in the video. may just be me not knowing how to use/navigate their menus, but yeah.
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Vasalis. The user interface was updated in August, where they changed some terminology and the location of things. With the new UI you'll find the sketch "mirror" command in the "Create" dropdown, but ONLY when you're in the SKETCH tab. The sketch tab will only be shown in your toolbar when you're in an active sketch environment. Alternatively, you can search for the text feature by using the keyboard letter "S" to activate the shortcuts box > search for the desired feature (mirror). More on the changes here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqa9q3uZoqunnZY

When I right click on the sketch desktop I get an abbreviated menu not the long one with mirror as a choice that you get. Was that the old ui?
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Basil Nason. They did change some things with the new UI as far as what is presented in the right-click menu. Instead, I would recommend using the shortcuts box to find features quickly. Hit the keyboard shortcut letter "S" to open the shortcuts box > then simply type out the name of the feature. Cheers, Kevin :)

Unfortunately, Fusion 360 does not have the checkbox to delete original. What you have to do is complete the mirror > delete the mirror constraint > delete the original sketch geometry.
