This was a great series Graham, very clear and concise. I enjoyed the comparison at the end of this video, but I have to say that I actually liked the raw sound a little better. Maybe some EQ and a taste of reverb, but I found the delays and heavy verb distracting. I understand that's not the sound you were going for, but my admittedly old acoustic ears think the original sound is more honest. Probably wouldn't sell as much though 😻

Genius, back in 2003 I noticed a slight addition to the musical arrangement in the second verse and I noticed it slightly from Kevin Toney. I never forgot it but I should hv made it a big deal and talked about it more because it’s very very important. I need to try it on every song I record lol that’s probably the reason why I’m not selling records like I should. Thanks for mentioning this. I’ll start mentioning this and doing this. Thx again graham

Another amazing video! Been loving the mix from scratch vids. Your channel helped me get better mixes in so many ways! Not sure if u already have one but would u consider making a video of editing/cleaning up tracks and preparing them for mixing? Getting them together nice and neat rather than clips everywhere. I tend to move or delete clips by accident. Thanks!

Thank you so much for making and sharing this fantastic series - as an absolute beginner, I have learnt so much from it (but have much practice to do). Good stuff. One thing to consider: you can use a compressor to sidechain the level of the delay when you're trying to keep it from competing with the source audio. You may still want/need to automate a wee bit, but it's a lot less tedious and time-consuming to bootstrap the track with the sidechain trick as a starting point. Thanks for these vids -- they're as inspiring as they are informative.

Being vocalist and piano player, i thought with your comments i could make it a good start, however i don't play guitar... well i'm screwed :) But the take home message: can't get your song out of my head now, caught myself whisteling it on my bike in the pouring rain :) can we hear the final result somewhere? Hi Graham - I've always wondered what your music reminds me of and then it came to me: do you know the Tarney-Spencer Band? You have a very similar sound! I know the band from the 70's and also have their LP "Run for your life" (1979) with the hit "No time to lose". Great rock music!

Hi Graham! You are simply the best!!! How to change volume on mix panel if there are some automated tracks. The knobs are coming back to the place where originally. I can't increase or decrease volume on final mix because of this automation. Any suggestions please?
@guillerob994 жыл бұрын
Hi, I use Fabfilter Pro-Q as the last plugin on each track with automation. This helps me to: 1) An EQ at the end of processing (I often use flat eq) 2) Automate the volume. I do not automate the volume of the track, but the volume of this plugin. That way I can use the fader for fine adjustments.

Graham has made several videos of all of these steps. I think it's a fair question given that it's a "from scratch" series"
@RandyVazquez7 жыл бұрын
J. M. Faupel agreed, that's why I asked. Maybe there's a new process he has, or he has other updated steps for us? It's a fair question for the series since I'm relatively new to his channel. I have my own way of mastering but I would love to see what he has for this series/segment 😊

I'm not sure what his plan is, on the one hand mastering isn't quite part of mixing, but on the other hand he did say it would be a way to get music radio ready which requires mastering so.. Who knows.
