Could you please do a video comparing the order of processing in a vocal chain? Like de-essing pre or post compression, and serial compression
@FredDeMassiveAlambic
@FredDeMassiveAlambic 2 жыл бұрын
For de-essing, try both ! For serial comp, 1176 to catch peaks (3-5 db max, short release) then LA2A (2-3db max) is an tried and true method For eq, I suggest to use a "cleaning eq" before compression (hi pass and resonnance suppression). You're not supposed to modify this eq after you set it, so you can put it before the comp knowing that it won't need you to adjust it. I suggest putting the tonal eq after the comp, so you'll be able to make changes without worring about compression modifications You can saturate before or after comp, it won't change so much Basically, changing the order of processing won't affect your sound so much, but will afect a lot the ease of work

Always very informative but I suggest make more aggressive changes and toggling the effects on/off several times for a more effective demo of each effect. I don't know if its KZbin's processing, or just my equipment but I can barely hear the changes you're making on a number of these effect. I'm listen on studio monitor headphones.
@spickeys5078
@spickeys5078 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks ! Do you use the first Substractive Mid-Side EQ again (but more aggressively) when you start the mastering session ? Because I use your old trick on my Master buss : - Cut Lows in Sides (ex: 145Hz. 18db/oct) - Cut Deep Subs in Mids (ex: Below 15 Hz. 12dB/oct) - Cut (dynamically) Highs siblings in Mids (ex: around 10 000 Hz)

Should the ozone 8 imager not be used on individual tracks either? Or just not on the mixbus? I used to see Jaycen Joshua just slightly widen his mixes on band 3 on the mixbus, but is there another way to get the same effect not using a delay imager?

The effect referred to in the video is the free single band version, that effects all bands equally; you are referring to the multiband version, which is perfectly okay to use on the stereo bus!

Hello! I just want to clarify something. When referring to the “mix bus” are you referring to grouping all of the tracks in the project to one bus. Or are you referring to the master bus channel?
@FredDeMassiveAlambic
@FredDeMassiveAlambic 2 жыл бұрын
most of the time people are using the "mixbus" term to speak of the master channel. The reason is we're not talking mastering here, even if most of the processes are (very) similar. Considering someone will mix the song and someone else will master it, we're talking here about the processes that a mix-engineer can use on his master bus while mixing. Many mix engineers work with a SSL compressor on their mixbus/master channel to get a "glue". Then, the mastering engineer will use his own compressors if needed.
