How to mix colors with alcohol markers (ft Olo Markers)

Wow, what a great system for using this medium! It really looks almost like watercolors in this demo. These seem to flood-fill a bit better than earlier alcohol-based markers did. Some brands sort of streaked and striped, and older artists who were used to the original, smelly solvent-based pens didn't like them as much. Of course, some of those solvents aren't used in markers any longer, for good reason!. We loved the in-depth explanation of the color numbering system!

This has been so helpful for me. I've been considering buying Olo, however, I'm so happy with my Copics, I think I'm gonna stay committed to them! I store my Copics markers in a Art Bin with a custom divider. I have an entire set and love to see each color standing next to each other. With the Olo markers, because they are connected, I wouldn't be able to see each end of each marker. You do a fantastic job explaining saturation, tone and color combinations. Super helpful!!

I just got some Olo markers and I love ‘em. I was hoping they would send you some markers and you would make a hex chart. Thanks Sandy!! Love your charts so much since they simplify my color choices. The charts are so worth the money.

This pic was beautiful! I fell in love with Copic colors years ago and have preferred them ever since. But the level of easy customization with these Olo markers (and the amount of ink) have me very interested in trying them out.

...and about Holly Bushes (Trees) there is a very large holly area that sits in New Jersey. On Sandy Hook sitting right between the ocean and bay side of the island is a holly farm, this is possible as there is a small area of fresh water between the two bodies of water.

One of the suprises I found with markers, I just have the ohuhu grey tone set for my practise monochrome prior to investing in more extensive set, is the variaty you can get in glazing. As I primarely use watercolours you can imagine I didn't expect that, I could glaze my heart out and my ohuhu skechbook didnt even gave damn. Ofcourse I messedup but thats ok thats what practise is for as I was testing the paper for maximum of glazes but I loved it.

If you have Copic stick with them-they’re still the best if you have markers that aren’t drying out. Their QC tanked a few years ago so I’ve been looking for alternatives for those who keep buying bad copics.

I tried a few of them and wasn’t impressed… Not enough to invest in buying a full set of markers, which is what I would need to make a hex chart. Olo sent me these.

The holly and berries are just amazing! How do these markers compare price-wise to Copics? I know you said the contain more ink, and since the refills are cartridges I assume they are less messy than refilling Copics. TFS

I haven’t done an ounce per ounce comparison, but my quick recollection is that these half markers are less than a Copic. Check their site for current pricing.

No. It’s copyrighted so I legally can’t make it available or I lose my rights. You can just buy ones with numbers for mediums that have been created.

What a great reminder. I bought the Copic Jumpstart class and only got part way through it. Life got in the way. Now I can go back and do it again. Maybe I’ll even advance! You Rock!
