I started watching tutorials from your channel about 5 years ago. My family was not fortunate enough to provide art education or materials, so growing up I used to draw pencil sketches of plants and animals on old news papers, until I started on a job. Years past I found your videos on youtube. You felt like a private tutor with professional skills and patience to pass down everything that's required to improve my little drawings. It helped me understand bits I learned alone in depth and so much more that I never realized. My drawings are still poor, but I can draw things that I couldn't before. I started with colors recently, which makes me happy. I wanted to say that you are my favorite teacher. Thank you.

Very helpful. When do you use a darker value vs layers?

so true about being courageous to really dig into the paint, I just completed one recently where my idea was to try & use as much saturated color as possible and even still wasn't dark enough by the end! I ended up using some India ink to really get that punch 😁

I have no fear when mixing dark paints, but how do you get them to a good consistency without lightening them again with water? When I make a dark mix, it's usually to thick to flow well on the paper, then I add water to thin it, and then it's not dark enough anymore...
