notice how the interviewer asks a question & then lets the educator fully answer the question before speaking again. not interrupting, not speaking over, not letting his ego add 'what he knows' to the conversation. he's literally only speaking 10% of the time. total pro interviewer, unsung hero of these podcasts!

1:33:06 I was literally thinking to suggest you interview Al Clay and there he mentions him. You should really reach out to Al, he is a wicked guy, very outgoing, and of course a fantastic producer and mixer. Im sure he'll do it.

I actually widen my bass in rock music. There's no law that says you can't treat a rock bass like a dance pop bass. I'm far from the first person to do it. Andy Wallace was famous for putting chorus on the bass on rock tracks. I've been using chorus as well, but now I want to try EchoBoy. I'll also occasionally put a little reverb on the bass or kick drum if I really want it to sound like the whole band is in a room. I find people get a little too conservative with the way they treat low end. It doesn't have to be straight down the center and dry.

absolutely! you can still achieve a V shaped pop mix with a little width in the bottom, as long as everything in the mids is nice and wide, clear and pristine, the top end and the bottom end can be bent quite far to suit whichever aesthetic.

I always thought everyone put their bass to the sides a bit.. kinda thought it was overdone

Seagull....some see colors like Pharrel. Some see shapes. I try to imagine a stage or room. But the Seagull thing also makes sense.

Winsome shelves as speaker stands FTW 😂… I have them in my mix space too, and try to avoid thinking “I should probably get real speaker stands for these monitors” because it sounds fine. It seems he thinks so too

Stands probably make a .5% difference but that’s huge when you have a good acoustic environment to begin with

Weird, he says he is using a LA2A as a peak limiter but it’s actually behaves like a RMS comp despite the “peak reduction” label - due to the optic signal
