More more more. I drop BBs in my mix. Copper coated for acrylics. Steel coated for enamels and lacquers. They don't go up the siphon tube. If you stop for a short time, a quick swirl keeps it agitated. Ready to go.

My paint guru, Bill Whitley. Wrote an article for Fine Scale Modeler several years back. He used to 'prep' his paint after he bought a bottle. Take the paint out, clean the bottle, strain the paint. Get it ready for use later. One thing he did was store the paint lids down. I have paint, unmixed, that's over twenty years old. Sad really. Lol

Try using lacquer thinner to thin the paint at the same ratio, it will dry much quicker than the testors thinner. Hope to see a Christmas haul video LOL

this is a good idea....I want to put a video out asking about shelf life of mixed paints....I;m wonder if you added bbs to the mix and gave each one a shake ever day how long they would last??? I;m thinking when mixing testors each bottle of paint is only 2 bucks so.......I will just used the left over paint to paint spoons or scrap bodys to get the hang of the airbrush PLUS the boy wants to play with the air brush so this old mixed paint would be no lost...38 more charcters remaining now ten ..

Recently I have had problems with Testors enamel 1:2 mix. I tried to paint a Mercury 1949 with metallic red and the 1:2 ratio seems to be too thin for me. Although I didn't have any run I am in the third coat and I think I am still far from finish the job. It looks red but there are some corrections in the body that are still VERY visible (I think they should have disappeared already for now) and also the painting doesn't look flat to me. I am using an AB like yours with the nozzle set around the middle. My compressor is set to 25 PSI of pressure. I am almost to give up this red and paint it on black... I probably will strip the paint tonight and start over... I have a question about prep... I don't use primer at all (old school guy here!) but I think that maybe my life would be easier if I do? The main reason I don't use it is because I never have found a specific primer for enamels. What would you refer to me? Thank you and congratulations for the nice videos! Keep up the good work! :)
@NorthViewModelShop9 жыл бұрын
I would use a primer. My fav is dupli colour found at Napa. Works great for both types of paint. I have. Video on it. If your doing red I would use the light grey primer

its funny how they explaine it but yeah 2:1 or 1 : 1/2 is really the same thing.. use one whole bottle of paint and then fill it up half way with thinner and mix.. works every time..

Good info for me as a first time air brusher. I'm completely torn between whether I should invest in Testors Enamel paints (mixed as you demonstrated) or Acrylic paints (which I believe are more expensive anyway). I can easily go out on my patio and spray emnamels all day long (I live in Arizona), so I'm not concerned about fumes (can't do much more brain damage anyway as I like to mix my Rum & Cokes 3 (Rum) to 1 (Coke)). I'm most interested in cost of supplies for thinning, painting ,cleaning, etc. Can I get away with using enamels full time in my airbrush? If so what will I need to maintain the performance of my new airbrush (it is a relatively cheap one anyway)??? Also, where is the next video that shows you painting that big CAT motor??? Thanks...

thanks for watching sorry for the slow reply.. I have found that the acrylics are much better to use and go a lot longer.

I went to canadiantire and got the cheapest stuff from household paint section....Im guessing this is "cold" thinnner and the stuff over in automotive paints is "hot"

pro-tip for holding your items for painting get a soldering tool called "3rd hand" they are like 10 and will hold pretty much any model perfectly.
@habiks10 жыл бұрын
Why waste 2 bottles? Just add thiner to the first bottle?
@Chekmate997 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of using two bottles in this case because you 'force' the oil that has settled into the mix much quicker than stirring. Otherwise you can be stirring for awhile depending on paint. Some colors seem to be better than others as gloss black required little mixing while metallic yellow had to mix for twenty minutes before it could be used. Using this tip would've saved me over fifteen minutes. the bottles can always be reused after a good cleaning.
