Some Constructive Criticism from a Fan: 1. Turn your headphones down during recording. Trust me you don’t need it that loud to record. The bleed in the takes get processed WITH the vocal which limits the potential. 2. Mix your vocals in context with the beat. You want your vocals to fit with the beat. You’ll make better decisions EQ and Compression wise. 3. Practice hearing frequencies. The sweeping method you did can cause you to take out frequencies that complement the vocal for the key the song is in. Ditch that style altogether because understanding frequencies will help A LOT in production AND engineering. 4. Be careful with cutting so much low-end in your voice. In some cases it works given the beat or style you’re going for, but know that body in vocals usually resides in the 100-200 Hz. Instead of a low-cut just use a low-shelf or bell band to deal with that frequency range. Use a low cut to cut out unnecessary low-end “rumble” that your voice isn’t really present in. 5. Learn about the parameters of a compressor so you can make better decisions for your vocals (they will change depending on the song). 6. It’s best to create send tracks in FL and send your vocal to a reverb or delay track, which will give you WAY more control. BUUUTTT if you want to continue adding that effect on the vocal directly, I would advise to put the delay before the reverb. The processing works from the top down, so if you have the reverb before the delay, it’ll delay the reverb AS WELL AS the vocal which could cause unnecessary frequency build-up. 7. Be careful with Fresh Air, or anything that adds high-end for that matter. Too much could cause your vocals to get very harsh very quick. A little goes a long way my guy. 8. Try to reach your vocal processing goal with less. Even with stock plugins you can achieve an awesome sound WITHOUT utilizing every insert on a track. For example, you used an EQ for the sweep method and another for the low cut when you could’ve used one to do both (still stop doing the sweep method lol). Usually two EQ’s are used for subtractive THEN additive. Try that method instead. All in all Sharpe, keep doing what you’re doing! I’m a long time engineer and producer and just want to see people grow and succeed in this field. Always be a student to the game! Bless you brother!

Your video by far, Mr. Sharpe simplified everything and helped me learn and understand how the plugins work. In between breathing adds emotion, use the noise gate in the limiter instead. Also add a Desser, when you “Limit” vs “Compressing” you’re inadvertently raising all your sibilants.

Aye @sharp I wanna give you an OG tip for after u finish everything and wanna give it one final mix …. Turn your headphones down to like the lowest volume … turn every tracks volume all the way down and then one by one turn them up with your headphones at the lowest volume and mix it like that (you will notice your knobs end up a lot lower then where they are now) and then turn the headphones back up and watch how clear everything becomes !! I start with the bass until I hear just enough and I mix the rest kind of around that and then when u turn the headphones back up it’s crazy how everything fits in

Everyone has a different approach, but those frequency buildup areas that your taking out are harmonics of the core notes ur hitting. You don’t always wanna take those completely out, just control them.

ur already creating fresh air effect by adding high end on the second eq, can be good to add for taste but you can do most of what fresh air does with an eq
@SharpeOne Жыл бұрын
True, I just love fresh air because it seems like they’re effect is more polished. And I think fresh air does a little more than boost the high end but I’m not exactly sure how it works

sidechain a multiband compressor to duck the frequency range your voice is dominent out of the instrumental. You can tone shape with things other than an EQ. You might want to consider utilizing predelay with your reverb so the dry signal is distinguishable from the reverb tail. If done correctly it won't sound like an echo but it will be just enough delay to where you can keep that clarity in tact.

When you’re using a beat you produced like that you can side chain your vocals to your drum bus so it isn’t overpowered. I would do it to your melody too or at least have the drums and melody bussed together after the drum bus to side your vocals to it
