With me my go to to make my Black is from Alzarin Crimson and Phthalo Green because that's how Bob Ross made his black and that is how I was introduced in how to make Black. However I might try your method of making black from Ultimarine Blue and some kind of brown such as Asphaultm.

You can also make black with ultramarine blue and burnt sienna or burnt umber. I also sometimes use your mix. It depends on the other colors in the painting.

I to have used these colors to make black and it does work ok more blue on the cool side more brown on the warmer side however if U want the blackest black Ivory black is the darkest I have found

But you can make brown by mixing equal parts red and green. You don't need to buy it.
