heh, i started off with the rgh on xbox 360s chipless... first time soldering and managed to get it to work, now im working backwards and it's breaking my brain haha so much fun though, can't wait to fully understand it all. just wish there was a documentary style "history of xbox modding all the way up to endgame today and how it all works" to follow each itteration instead of having to go to the wiki's and be like ohhh okay so thats what mod chip came with this xbox i bought on ebay that hasn't been opened in 13 years. video form would be so much nicer. and the order like what came first, this or that and what made it different set it apart from the last modchip or whatever. thanks a lot for this helpful tutorial. I would say the best one I have seen for OG Xbox. It works perfectly on 1.6 and with no need to cut lines or modify the original chips of the motherboard. The only topic to consider in 11:30 is that depending on how SST chip is programmed it could go in the opposite way (as shown in the corner picture), I had to do that and everything worked. Worked like a charm I had success flashing in the xbox 2 different knock off Aladdin xt Plus 2's over the last two days with the 2.3.2 cerbios boot disk I booted in to the Static IP / BFM mode and flashed the 256k one and it took it no problem on both a 1.0 and 1.6 after following this tutorial. so the fakes are flashable in xbox without an external writer with that method. I'm going to post on xbox-scene a more full process of what I did to get mine both flashed shortly i just did them both last night and a few minutes ago for the 1.6

Takes me back. I modded mine back in the day with a non solder chip. I dont remeber the name or the details but I had it running a custom dashboard. That xbox still sits in a box in my closet to this day.

this video is a great help. i picked an OG xbox out of a pile of scrap eletronics at work (work at a pc shop) and it was already modded with the aladdin modchip. it just wouldnt go past the BIOS screen because the drive failed.

Those cloned Aladdin mod chips from Ali Express are a nightmare, I bought some and they came with nothing on them which took ages to work out what was going on, others have had varied success but unless you're modding a number of Xboxes just pay extra for a Xenium Ice or something else. Anyways I bought a usb nano flasher and about to try and flash these blank chips. Thanks for making this video it pointed me in the right direction!

I had run into this too when I went to upgrade the BIOS on my Aladdin clone with Cerbios. What it comes down to is there are several different model flashROM chips that'll work in these modchips. Once programmed, they all function identically in read mode but if you go to write data to them they each use a different write protocol and only one of them is compatible with the homebrew flashing utilities. I ended up buying myself a general purpose EEPROM USB flasher as I had always wanted one for a while and by manually extracting the flashROM, programming, and re-installing everything worked out great.

Thank you very much; setting up the HDD via the PC is actually a good idea. For some reason mine doesn't want to boot off the burned DVD's; and it won't boot with the originally installed (softmodded) HDD. Also; does the xbox still boot normally (with the normal HDD) if you take the modchip off the board? Mine doesn't seem to do that either...

Your optical drive may be going out. I have seen lots of OG Xboxes with faulty DVD Drives. To boot up with the original HDD and bios you would have to remove the mod chip and disconnect the D0 wire so the Xbox does not boot using the Dubug port.

​@@MadModLabs Thank you for your method. I've used your guide to bypass the need for the DVD drive for the installation; and at least my XBOX is now working again! Next step is to try and completely eliminate the need of an DVD drive (with the 2.5" SSD, I may make it super slim, and the drive is dead hardware anyway; want to be sure it'll boot withouth if it completely dies), I found I could actually flash the modchip using EvoX, but my modchip seems to be supported (read; chinese knock-off). Is this why you're using the external programmer? I heard those should be able to flash any modchip. (Do you accept donations, and how? You just saved me from buying an dvd-writer; or a new xbox)

Actually, the ROM/BIOS programmer will cost me up to 70euro's to get here. I'm thinking to actually buy an OpenXenium to flash it with no-dvd-mod as it's about the same price.

hi can you help ive got an aladdin plus chip i have clone the hard drive but im getting error 7 i have tried other driver in it but still get the same error 7 the other xboxs i have are the same they are ok they will play any hard drive in it they have the aladdin plus chip as well only thing i noticed is that when you turn off the xbox the red light on the chip stays on the others dont i did not fit the chip

The Aladdin chips from AliExpress will work but they will need to be flashed with Cerbios.

There are a few ways you can extract a .ISO file into HDD ready files. You could install XDVD Mulleter and select "Extract/Browse files in ISO"

The only games that have caused any problems for me are the handful of games that have files with very long names. Examples include Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. I have gotten the games to run but they throw an error while transferring the files to the hard drive.

I have an original xbox thats modded but its switch is broken and having a part come in but i honestly have no idea what mod method it is.o recived it as a Christmas present long ago so i have 0 intel of what type of mod its got other than Xecutor v2.6 or something.

You would have to open up the system and see what you have installed. The only functional purpose for the switch is to disable the mod for online gaming which is no longer a thing. Open up your system, get down to the modchip, follow the wires from your switch to the modchip, and bridge those points together and you should be good to go assuming everything else is in working order.

The one thing about the Og xbox modding hasn't come back is top windows for the disk drive and hard drive. Now i have a cnc i wont need to use a file/dremel/foul language to make my windows nice.

I believe the XenoFX and the Aladdin XT2 are pretty much the same thing, they were just released at different times. You can change the bios the same way as an Aladdin chip. If your optical drive works, a bootable disk is probably the simplest way.

You will probably want to upgrade the HDD. The original HDDs do not hold much data.

Most of the Aladdin chips that I've seen shipped with an older version of the EVO X bios. I would definitely recommend flashing the bios with the latest version of Cerbios now that it supports the 1.6 revision Xboxes.

@@sutch2607 Yes, several people have commented on my other Xbox video saying they successfully flashed their bios with a Hexen disk. In this video I flashed the BIOS before installing the modchip because the version of the Aladdin chip I have does not like to be flashed from a Hexen disk. I mentioned this problem at 9:41

I did not cut the trace. If you do cut the trace it will disable the original Xbox bios for good unless you repair it. Some people say that cutting the trace will make the console live longer. I don't have evidence to prove or disprove this.

Hey I followed this tutorial and I booted up the Xbox and it turned off twice I believe it was a orange flash and I got a red and Green flashing light after that, is that do with the bios I flashed on the SST chip?

This error is usually called FRAG. (Flashing red and green). It means the Xbox has failed to load the bios due to a hardware error. The most common cause of FRAG after installing a modchip is a bad solder connection at the LPC port. Those pads are very small so it is very easy to have a weak solder joint. There are some other things you could check too. When you programmed the new BIOS chip did you get a "programming successful" message? If so, your bios flash is good but you could always read the chip back in the programming software to verify. When you power the Xbox on does the modchip light up? If the light is off or dim you should check your pin header and D0 connection again. This error is extremely common so don't get discouraged. I'm sure you can get it working.

The Contacts that you need to solder to are very small. So any flux will be better than no flux. I recommend getting "no clean" Flux if you can. I usually buy the type that comes in a syringe because it is easy to use without making a mess. amzn.to/3LACqs7

Error 7 means the hard drive is not working or it is not able to communicate with the Xbox. The last time I saw this error, the hard drive was not plugged in. I would start troubleshooting your error by verifying that the HDD is working, then check your SATA to IDE adapter.

Am I crazy or is this video titled wrong? Pretty sure this is not how a 1.6 chip is installed. The video even shows you installing it in a 1.4 or below. 1.6 revisions do not have the extra RAM slots. You also need to rebuild the LPC to enable the chip.
