I have two water columns and a water tower on my railway, as well as the coal staithes filled with coal. But you forgot something else. How to make it look like a machine is refuelling an engine. I have a toy tractor with a metal scoop-bucket on its front doing that sort of job. The tractor isn't the right scale, but at least it's doing the job. However, I've made the smaller water column more realistic. I broke a chain off a Spanish Doll I've got, so I blu-takked the chain to the water column and it looks the part of railway scenery a lot better. As for coalling the steamies, you need a mechanical shovel. Yes, the steamies need water, otherwise there'd be a boiler explosion on our hands. That would never do.
