fyi: If you right click after selecting the edge of a circle with the measure tool it will give you the exact diameter. Thanks again for more good content.

Great suggestion!

Hi Matt, can you make a tutorial in which you show strategies for forming things that consist of two components and can be put together? For example, a box and a matching lid or other things that can be put on top of each other or put into each other. For example, do you have to build the negative form yourself? Or can Plasticity create suitable forms from negative spaces?

Great idea! Are you looking for something to 3d print or just in general for modeling? in general there are a few workflows. You can use booleans (Q) and subtract one body from another, but that doesn't account for any space needed. For example if you are 3d printing things you can't have them be exact or it won't work. You can instead use/create offsets or scaled versions of bodies to remove from others. I think that is a great topic, ill add it to my list.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign In fact, I recently faced this problem when I built a box that I 3D printed. I had a good design for the box, but was racking my brains over how to make a lid that fit, especially since it involved round edges. In the end, I drew a solution that was based only on eye measurements and was only semi-perfect. I thought to myself that a professional would surely have a solution for a lid based on the existing shapes of the box.

so when creating the rim profile, did you not go above 18 inches? seeing as the lip you modelled goes higher? edit: After some research I now understand how rims are measured,
@Vogueeeeee3 ай бұрын
you did a 9inch line representing the diameter of the wheel which in turn is 18 inches, but then created the lip that is .5 inches taller no?
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign3 ай бұрын
yeah for the most part the rim/tires are measure where the bead of the tire seats. So the lip would be taller than 18in in this case. How much depends on the rim, type of tire intended etc. For example a truck rim would have softer and taller sidewalls and often have a larger lip. Unless you have one to measure it becomes a bit of a guessing game :)

Is REVOLVE tool always confusing? I just cant understand how it works. Not clear about its logic
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign2 ай бұрын
Yeah the Revolve tool and the array tools can be tough because the picks/clicks don't seem intuitive. With revolving a closed profile you need to make 2 selections that will define the axis of revolution. Generally this would be two clicks on a default axis if you are modeling from the origin. so say Z then move up a bit more and click on Z again. It gets tricky if you select geometry. Best thing in that case is the center point of a circular solid body. But i generally go for an axis selection.

Honestly te37 is a little bit more complicated, than this model.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign6 ай бұрын
that is true. I filmed this video like 4 times and kept trying to get it shorter and shorter. Sadly I don't have TE37s to look at directly but I do know there are more features.
