Really useful. Hose adapters are one of the first things I made on my printer. Today I am looking to improve my adapters by printing a "spiral" that screws into the thread of the expanding/corrugated type hose. I am just starting to research how on onshape but its the sort of part 2 you might make.

What bed adhesion choice do you use I choice raft and I could not remove it from the adapter without sanding it away. Do you use skirt? If I use brim or raft it leaves to much plastic below the print it’s actually part of the print I have to file it down. The outer portions or the support can be removed but the inside seems to become part of the print and requires sanding. What do you do to prevent this?

I wish I had seen this a year ago and had a 3D printer back then. I have a sandblasting booth and had to Frankenstein an adapter to put dust collection on it. This would have been super useful. I may still go back and update it. Come to think of it, I had to do something similar on my powdercoating booth as well. Have you worked with Fusion 360? and if so how would you compare the two programs? I'm just in the infancy of learning the software, so I'm not too invested to change to something more intuitive.
@EvanAndKatelyn7 жыл бұрын
Once you know how to 3D model and have a 3D printer, the possibilities are endless. Our list of ideas and projects is just ridiculous!! Yes, I've worked with Fusion 360 before and is is really great. They both have their strengths so it's hard to compare. Will you be working with objects that are very geometric in nature? I think Onshape is better. If you are working with complex surfaces though, I think Fusion 360 is better. A wooden table from dimensional lumber would be a great thing to model in Onshape. A car with complex surfaces and no regular geometry would be better in Fusion. I hope I'm making sense with that explanation, lol.

Hey guys, another great video! Absolutely one of the more frustrating things in my shop. I'm curious what the largest dimension is you've used in your adapters. I'm looking at the monoprice MP select mini (absolute beginner printer) which has a print bed 4.7" x 4.7" x 4.7". I'd love to print adapters for my tools, but i'm curious if this is big enough, any thoughts? Thanks again for the videos, looking forward to the next!
@EvanAndKatelyn7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much :D The largest adapter we made was for the 4" dust collection hose down to our various tools, and the largest OD there is 4.25" and length is 5", but you could totally pull back on the length and have it fit within 4.7" so I think you're good to go! I'm also working on some models for pegboard accessories, and might release those sometime too. You can make so many things with a 3d printer. If you want to browse more ideas for inspiration, there is an entire subreddit for functional 3d printing at www.reddit.com/r/functionalprint/ and there is this one user (g713) who has a crazy huge album of all the functional prints he has made here: imgur.com/a/Zs9o1

Loved the video guys! Any recommendations on a 3D printer for beginners?
@EvanAndKatelyn7 жыл бұрын
Sure, lots! But since there are so many options there is no single best, but a good one for each need. First I would consider what the biggest object you would likely print is. If it's small, that opens up a lot of options. Then I would consider how mechanically inclined are you and how open you are to tinkering and modifying. If you are open to that then it opens up some cheaper kits like the Prusia. In general I really like my LulzBot from Aleph Objects and they have a mini one available, but it is still somewhat pricey. I think the best place for you to start would be to look at a comparison website. My favorite is here: www.3dhubs.com/3d-printers but come back here if you have any questions!

Another great video guys. Onshape looks simple to use, is there a reason you chose that one? Have you tried Fusion 360 or sketchup? Thanks, Bob
@EvanAndKatelyn7 жыл бұрын
Yes and yes :) I chose Onshape for a few reasons. 1) it is great at revolves, which is what we use for this shape 2) it is free and doesn't require a fancy computer 3) there aren't too many tutorials for Onshape in this community (makers) 4) it supports variables, which makes it easier to make templates that other people can modify I think those were the main reasons. Fusion 360 is great for more complex shapes with curving surfaces. I can't wait to play with it more, but for a simple revolve, Onshape seems a little easier. Sketchup was I think the original groundbreaking free CAD but it is getting a bit dated now since you can only use Sketchup 8 commercially.
@whitedoggarage7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Guys. I tried Fusion 360 but it was a fight and it won and I retired to my corner. My plays in sketchup 8 have been okay but I wasn't that impressed. Your video made Onshape look simple so I am keen to try it and when I think about it I could use some hose adapters :). Thanks again.

Love your tutorials and you guys are super cute! (just watched a few of your other vids as well!) I've been wanting to get into 3d printing, is there any 3d printer that you would recommend for newbies? There are so many options out there and it's hard to figure out which one(s) to invest into. Looking for something that's at least half decent (not too cheaply made/fragile) and big enough to print medium size objects (maybe 20x20cm), and not too too expensive.... any suggestion would be awesome, thanks!
@EvanAndKatelyn7 жыл бұрын
Aww thanks so much \ (•◡•) / ooh that is a tough bill to fit. How mechanically inclined are you? A 3d printer required a decent amount of setup and maintenance. A perfect fit would be the taz 6 (amzn.to/2t0WDQQ) except for the price. It has the big print volume, auto leveling (aka good for newbs) but is $2,500. On the cheap side of things there is some from China such as the CR-10 that have a big build volume and are cheap but not sure how easy they are to use (goo.gl/K6MXPU) since I haven't tried them. Let me know if you have any more guidelines so I can revise the suggestions or if you have any questions :)

Just gotta take it one step at a time - I think the 3D modeling is sometimes the most intimidating part so you can always start with printing 3D models that already exist, and then focus on learning to model after. Or you could go the opposite route and focus on honing 3D modeling skills, then try your hand at printing. Good luck!
